The scene where Jamie comes home and his face changes from joy to concern. He also goes from light to shade. I don't know if it was planned but it worked well for that scene.
YES! I NOTICED THE EXACT SAME THING!
When Claire first sees Jamie, he is so playful and joyful to see her:
Then we get a close-up of his face. Remember how Claire has described Jamie as the sun - and look, his face is glowing with light. He is still smiling, so happy to see her.
But in a split second his demeanor changes - the smile vanishes from his face. And the beautiful, glowing sunlight is gone.
For the joy of his homecoming has been extinguished with his wife’s troubles.
Instinctively he rushes to comfort her. For that is what his heart calls him to do.
Anon - I agree that I have no idea whether this was planned. But it’s so, so, SO good. Infused with beautiful and poignant symbolism. Such a small exchange that shows how tightly bound Jamie and Claire are to each other.
