It's these tiny details that continue to amaze me. Testament to the incredible amount of care that suffuses this entire production - and has, from the very beginning.
Twice in the span of three episodes in Season 6, Jamie returns home to Claire after an extended period away.
The first time he returns home, he hungers for her. He seeks her out immediately. He makes it very clear to her that he wants her, right there, in the place where he finds her. Immediately she responds to him in kind - for she feels the exact same way. She loves him, and wants him, and joys in their love that isn't usual.
The second time Jamie returns home, it's Claire who hungers for him. She seeks him out immediately. She makes it very clear that she wants him right there, in the place where she finds him. And Jamie immediately responds to her in kind. Joys in her, and in their love.
It's more than simple want that drives this. It's the fact that they hunger for this deep connection - their souls and bodies and hearts scream for each other. They lived for 20 years without that - with spouses who cooled to their touch, who definitely would never have reciprocated even a fraction of the immediacy that they express.
They hunger so deeply for each other precisely because they were starved of each other for so long. Starved of a partner who recognizes the other partner's need for that connection.
They respect each other's want and need for that connection. Because nothing is more important.
It is a gift they give each other. A gift that only they - quite exquisitely - can give.
Claire just casually using a broom as the man who thinks she's a witch approaches the house. Nothing to see here, folks.
"Just now, I was actually trying to rank ‘I love you, I like you, I worship you, I have to have my cock inside you,’ in terms of their relative sincerity.”
“Did I say that?” he said, sounding slightly startled.
“Yes. Weren’t you listening?”
“No,” he admitted. “I meant every word of it, though.” His hand cupped one buttock, weighing it appreciatively. “Still do, come to that.”
“What, even the last one?” I laughed and rubbed my forehead gently against his chest, feeling his jaw rest snugly on top of my head.
“Oh, aye,” he said, gathering me firmly against him with a sigh. “I will say the flesh requires a bit of supper and a wee rest before I think of doin’ it again, but the spirit is always willing. God, ye have the sweetest fat wee bum. Only seeing it makes me want to give it ye again directly. It’s lucky ye’re wed to a decrepit auld man, Sassenach, or ye’d be on your knees with your arse in the air this minute.”
He smelled delectably of road dust and dried sweat and the deep musk of a man who has just enjoyed himself thoroughly.
“Nice to be missed,” I said contentedly into the small space beneath his arm. “I missed you, too.”
My breath tickled him and his skin shivered suddenly, like a horse shedding flies. He shifted a bit, turning me so that my head fit into the hollow of his shoulder, and sighed in matching content.

What is "allegiance"?
Besides seeing one of my favorite Jamie and Claire exchanges come to life (I love you, I worship you...) in 06x02 "Allegiance"...
This episode was a fascinating examination of what "Allegiance" means, for each of our key Outlander characters.
Roger - his allegiance is to Brianna (in the way he supports her inventions and pulls her up when she feels down on herself). And to Jamie (in the way he goes to find Fergus, in Marsali's time of need. Truly representing the whole Fraser/MacKenzie family in that moment).
Ian - his allegiance is to the Mohawk and Cherokee, of course. And to his brand-new nephew Henri-Christian, who he recognizes as being so very precious. And to his uncle, who he guides to make the right decision.
Marsali - her allegiance is to her husband Fergus, despite his awful faults and his terrible absences. And to Claire - whom she trusts above all things, and considers to be her mother. And to her precious new bairn, who she adores and will care for no matter what others think.
Bird Who Sings In The Morning - his allegiance is to his people. He will fight for them, demand what's theirs, come what may.
Brianna - her allegiance is to her family, first and foremost. She cares for them so deeply, which is why she seeks to bring a bit of modernity to their world. She supports her mother and father, and her husband, and their family. She guides them to do the right thing, to make the right decision. And of course her allegiance is to Roger, to supporting his unexpected vocation as a minister.
Tom Christie - his allegiance is to his God, supposedly. Though clearly it's to his own causes. He seeks to use God as a wedge. Yet Jamie is the one who ends up finding and using that wedge against Tom.
Jamie and Claire - their allegiance is always, always to each other, and to the family they have worked so, so hard to build. They give each other the space to pursue their own interests, meet their own obligations, take the leadership roles that they're clearly so well-suited for. They care deeply for their family, and their household, and their tenants. But at the end of the day - their sole allegiance is to each other. For without that soul-deep commitment, without the unconditional love between them...there's nothing.
