Dnd today had me absolutely in my feelings for my character holy shit. Spoilers for session 44

Wick had to hand herself over to the visitors to save crossette, who they had chained up in a cistern. They took her weapons, handcuffed her to the cistern (a metal grate on an underground well, filling slowly with water), right next to Crossette, who was still so close to being killed. He couldn't do anything for her. He just had to tell her she would be okay,,, and then she wasnt,,,,, and all wick could do was yell. They started casting something and wick started to panic, and it was so quick, she couldnt process it. Just so incredibly out of control, at the mercy of these terrible people. And then she had to watch up close as they killed her... God. I'm having so many thoughts and feelings. It... Was a good session

I’ve just figured out how to word my thoughts about this damn guy, so, here goes. Cielomort is not doomed by the narrative to me more than he is actively fighting it.

Fragmem thematically is just one big redefinition of chivalry (and that definition is humanity). To be faithful is to be human, and thus, by proxy of the cast being knights and the concepts they find certainty in being deemed their ‘codes of chivalry’ (which they come to an epiphany about before being elected a fragaria), to be chivalrous is human. It’s been very unsubtle about that.

Cielomort is someone who believes the step he’s ought to take to protect the world is his sacrifice (in some sense, they are still very vague about the specifics of what he’s up to). He believes that in his sacrifice, he can single-handedly create a world that can come to unanimous agreement of things being safe, and thus ‘save’ it. (The musical specifically has him illustrate his plans as getting rid of the SEEDS entirely, which is very interesting to me). The net good in Cielomort’s mind is safety, he wishes to keep the world safe through its ‘protection’, but the net good in the eyes of the narrative is faith in humanity. In investing his own faith in the prospect of his own plan, Cielomort stands against, well, the narrative itself.

To ‘do whatever it takes’ is to stand by a hypothetical, not a person, not an ideal, and not himself. There is no cross here, but Cielomort’s plan entails nailing himself to one. He’s going to try building one regardless.
