Packing and over packing
I assume most of you are thinking how on earth do you pack for a year? Believe me it’s hard. I’m not exactly a backpacker I like the luxuries of having a bed and shower and all my different styles of clothes with me, I like have choice. You never know what’s going to happen and where we are going to be invited to especially as we are with family we thought we might need clothes for all occasions, well not all just occasional wear and casual wear. We were allowed to have 2 suitcases each but we decided to have 3 between us and our backpacks. Australia isn’t exactly cold like the UK in fact it is the complete opposite. I looked through my clothes and sorted them into piles. I had a dress pile, shorts pile, tops pile etc... I then sorted out what I liked from those piles, tried them on and packed. I packed 2 pairs of jeans one black and one blue, hand full of tops, shorts, 1 hoodie, 2 pairs of trainers, flat shoes, heels and of course underwear. My big suitcase had my clothes, toiletries and other bits and bobs; our little suitcase that we were sharing had our shoes, hoodies, gadget stuff e.g. chargers. Then came our backpacks; our backpacks were filled with spare clothes for the flight, toothbrush, makeup, gadgets, books and my Sudoku book! We are pretty much packed and by now I was fed up of packing, I hate packing. Checking in at the airport was absolutely stressful. We never book with agencies but as this is a big trip we just wanted everything to go smoothly which unfortunately it didn’t! They lady at the agency had told us we were allowed 2 suitcases each with weight limit of 30kg, i bet you can see were this is going. Checking in at the airport was so stressful! Apparently Cathay Pacific had changed their weight limit people who booked their flights before a certain time were only allowed 25kg in total between 2 suitcases and guess what; we booked before! Anyway, this was all sorted the next day in Hong Kong, that was another stressful but fun adventure. I'll do a post about Hong Kong another day. Now we have been in Australia for a month I have realised that I didn't need or use half of the clothes I brought plus I bought more, ops. I pretty much stick to the same shorts and tops. You don't need a lot at all to be honest but I think almost everyone has the same thought. It's a year I'm going to need a lot of clothes, I'm going to need this and that but honestly you don't. One thing I do regret not bring which I thought of a lot of bringing was my DSLR! I know Stupid right. However, I haven't used my DSLR in a while and it's quite heavy so I thought no I'm going to leave it and use my iPhone. iPhone is getting better and better at camera quality, it's good but not amazing like my DSLR but it doesn't matter now. Let me know what you think about packing and over packing. J x

Overpacking is a given for me!
Some of you may be better at traveling light but overpacking has always been an issue for me. When I have a quick weekend getaway on the horizon I end up over stuffing my weekender bag, grabbing another bag to handle the overflow and then maybe a small bag or two to carry my shoes. I know deep down that I will probably only consider wearing 40% of it and actually…

Ask Dr Mom about Vacations
It is that time of year again! The vacation season has officially started. Like most people my patients tent to over pack. There are few things everyone should remember when preparing for a vacation.
1) Do not OVER PACK
Take only what you need. If you will be staying longer than a couple of days see if your resort/hotel has a laundry room or laundry service.
2) Pack ONE WEEK before you leave
A) There is no need to do laundry the night before you leave on a trip.
B) If you don't over pack there is no need to do loads and loads of laundry.
C) You will sleep better leading up to your vacation because you have removed the stress of last minute packing.
3) Pack small bags NOT one large one
The fewer bags you care at a lesser weight the less stress you put on Yu neck, shoulders and back. We all have the luggage with the wheels on the bottom and those are wonderful for short travel and air travel. (When you are not the one carrying it around) When we pack a large suitcase we see a lot of empty space and tell ourselves that we have room for more. Therefore pack two small bags and include a third small bag just in case you bring back more than you took with you.
If you have any specific questions please feel free to submit a question in my Ask Dr Mom link.
Whenever I pack I end up with half my closet in a bag and the mindset of "I may need this."
