They wanted her to fail, but she didn’t. They wanted her to stop, so she moved faster. They wanted to tame her, but she was never wild to begin with. She was just too intelligent, too cunning for them all. She wasn’t satisfied until all those doubtful voices could be heard no more.

Excellence came naturally to you– why wouldn’t it? You were born into a family of geniuses. You might not have the best social skills, but what did it matter? You were brilliant, a math prodigy they called you. You’ve always known you were destined for great things, and your family sure as hell wouldn’t accept any less. Sure, an immense kind of pressure went with being a part of your family and there were little room for mistakes, but you’ve always relished in it, haven’t you?

DEVIANT - The childhood friend. You two have always been close, and she didn’t care so much about your lack of social niceties. You were rude to her in middle school, she was rude to you back, and all was history. Maybe she’s the only friend you’ll ever have in the Academy, but who cares?

RECKLESS - The nuisance. You’ve never liked him, not even when you two were paired for a project during freshman year. You’ve always thought his easy-going attitude was just an excuse for his laziness, and you hate that ever-present smirk on his face.

Jackson looked over his shoulder at Derek and swallowed around the lump in his throat. "She loved me." He looked back down and pulled his knees to his chest and folded his arms on them and laid his head down "Go to sleep Derek." he mumbled. "Just go to sleep." -J

It clicked, then. Everything. All the dumb moves Jackson had made. He’d truly wanted to protect Lydia, with everything that he was, he wanted to protect her. She loved him, and he hadn’t wanted to hurt her. Derek wanted to delve deeper into the subject, quite frankly, but he let it drop, knowing Paige would inevitably turn up in the conversation. He didn’t want to think about her, let alone talk about her. It hurt too much. So the alpha kept quiet, and he tried drifting off, but Paige was in his mind, her pretty face and her delicate skin and her fragile, innocent little life. The guilt hit him again, and the teenage heartbreak returned. A diluted tear hit the fabric of the couch, but Derek made not a sound.

Jackson stood and walked into the bathroom. He started rummaging through the medicine cabinet. He walked back out to Derek and handed him a bottle of aspirin "Take some, hangovers can be killer." he said ignoring the asshole comment. Jackson slid back down on to the floor. "I missed her too." he whispered, knowing Derek could still hear him. "I've missed her so much." -J

Derek popped the pills in his mouth without hesitation, only thinking to second guess them after he’d swallowed. And he had to say, hearing Jackson admit to missing Lydia, he did feel he was a bit more human — no pun intended. Maybe he could change. Maybe. Derek stayed quiet for a good minute or two, just lying on the couch, drowsy. “Why’d you break up with her in the first place?” The alpha curled into the cushions, wondering aloud. “What’d she do?”

Jackson leaned against the couch with his eyes closed. He opened his eyes slowly and looked at Derek. "I'll be able to do more than you can right now. Would you like me to call the others and ask them to come stay here?" Jackson closed his eyes again and sighed "I'm sure they'll be surprised to see me. Just go to sleep Derek. If anything happens I'll wake you." -J

“Lydia will be surprised to see you,” Derek said, finally, finally curling up on the couch. “You should meet her new play-toy, Aiden. Complete asshole, like you,” he grumbled. The alpha rolled over onto his side, away from Jackson. His head throbbed. His throat burned. And he sighed. “Youshouldtellheryou’reherethough… ‘cause she… she missed you.”

Jackson looked down at Derek picking up the glass. Always cleaning up the mess and not letting anyone help. He sighed and grabbed Derek's arm. "Leave the glass alone, you'll cut yourself." He pushed Derek towards the couch and sat on the floor with his back resting against it. "I'm staying here Derek. You're too drunk to fight if anything happens." -J

I lose all of them anyway. Lo and behold, the greatest plot twist of the century — Derek Hale, drunk, had a filter on his speech. The alpha snarled at Jackson when he pushed him away from the glass. Derek poured what he had in his hands in the trashcan in the kitchen, wiping off his hands. “You won’t be able to do anything either, you don’t know what they’re capable of.”

Jackson took the bottle from Derek and gulped some down making a face. "Derek, you know I had to leave. I just couldn't be here and I couldn't face everyone. I'm a coward, I know." He took another swig from the bottle and handed it back to Derek. "I'm sorry. I'm here now and that should count for something. I've changed." -J

"I’ll tell you what it fuckin’ counts for," Derek barked, taking the bottle again in his hand. "Nothing. It doesn’t count for shit. You can’t change, I know you.” He took a long gulp from the bottle, wiping at his mouth with the back of his hand, embracing the burn. “You’re arrogant and stupid. And you’ll never change. Keep driving your Porsche, go back to London, because nobody needs you here.”
