Back in 2016, when #overthemoonmovie was in very early development, #lunaria looked very different. The script had this gang of biker chicks with cheesy one liners that made me think of a grittier environment with big sci-fi, blade runner influences. I also came up with the idea of having the animals from the zodiac be the citizens of this city in space. Over the moon. Research trip, March 2018.

Before sharing some artworks, I thought I'll share with you some of the pictures I took during our research trip in Shanghai and Wuzhen. Pearl invited us to spend a week in China to discover the Chinese culture. Some of you know, that I travel a lot. So fate happened that I was already in China for a month when Glen, Gennie, Steeve, Lisa arrived in Shanghai. I met them there for a week, in March 2018.  During this week, we had the pleasure to discover how to make mooncakes with a cooking class, have dinner at one of our Pearl artist's home (with her grand parents, parents and her little baby), visit Shanghai, visit two water towns : Wuzhen and Nanxun, and many other things...

Going on a more emotional tone, here is one of my first explorations for the "Chamber of Exquisite Sadness" scene, where Chang'e goes after losing Huoyi for the last time. #lunaria must be one of the most challenging assignments I've had as an artist. Not only on how the buildings could look like, but their whole layout. What the city line is. This sketch was a win because Glen liked the idea of the city as a floating disc.
