Dundee's Oor Wullie's Bucket Trail has come to an end. It's been brilliant! This weekend we went along to the new Slessor Gardens where all of the sculptures were gathered together to let everyone bid farewell. Speaking of bidding...on Tuesday the Wullies will be auctioned, and I'm excited to be attending the event. I just hope I don't accidentally buy one! The bucket trail is raising funds for the Archie Foundation, with the goal of building a new paediatric surgical suite at Tayside Children's Hospital.

In Scotland it’s a tradition in most households to receive the Oor Wullie or Broons annual for Christmas. This was certainly the case for me growing up in the Scottish Borders. I have lived in the home of these institutions (Dundee) for eight years now and was amused to hear of a public art project taking place this summer. ‘Oor Wullie’s Bucket Trail’ will see fifty four-foot fibreglass sculptures of the wee rogue displayed around Dundee, customised by different designers, artists and community groups. 

Hundreds of people have entered the open call for submissions and the shortlist will be announced shortly. My design proposal is based on an earlier illustration called Nearly Nobody Notice Numbats.

(The project is running in association with D.C Thompson and Wild in Art, and funds raised from the sale of the sculptures will go to the Archie foundation.)
