For what it's worth, I have managed to do that, too. Once ended up accidently throwing a pizza tomato-sauce first on the ground that way.
Wasted pizza is very sad. ):

I managed to put my hand down onto the edge of a hot frying pan yesterday despite knowing full well it was hot, so I feel your pain, quite literally.
