@housewithaclock is the kind of movie that takes me back to the days of elementary school, when Halloween was the biggest deal of the year. I remember trying to read the book when I was in 4th grade, but it was too scary for little old me. Once I heard a movie was being made, I was reminded about the book and got excited. To be fair, I was taken back to see Eli Roth directing it and Jack Black starring, but I still couldn’t wait. I have watched the movie and am finishing the book and to be honest they’re not that different. The book is creepy, but it’s meant for young readers and the movie deals with intense subjects, but it just adds a little bit more comedy. Jack Black and Cate Blanchett are a perfect as Johnathan Barnavelt and Ms. Zimmerman and Owen Vaccaro’s performance as Lewis is outstanding. I felt for this kid, who lost his parents, is living with someone he’s basically never met, and now has to face an evil that will end the whole world, pretty extreme. By the end, he’s able to find his strength and realize all the marvelous things that he’s capable of. This is not jus a great Halloween movie but just a great fall movie. Like I said, it takes you back to when a specific time when the little things of the fall season were so exciting. The decorations, the costumes, the school parades, even the autumn book fairs. It’s the right kind of fun and the right kind of spooky for all to enjoy this Halloween season.
