In light of the revelation that Disney funded (and continues to fund) the sponsors of Texas’s latest transphobic abomination of a bill:
I will still be liveblogging The Owl House. I love the show, and Dana and the crew don’t deserve to be tarred with the same brush as their corporate overlords. That said, I will not be giving Disney any money as I do so (you can guess how that works 🏴☠️).
(I don’t currently pay for Disney Plus, but my mother does, and I’m trying to convince her to cancel our subscription. (I know she likes the Marvel movies, but this is beyond the pale). I also deleted the few Disney soundtracks I had in my streaming library, which probably doesn’t really do much but I don’t want to give my streaming numbers to the company that wants respecting people in my community to be considered abuse. Most of this is fairly symbolic— Disney is such a monopoly it’s almost impossible to avoid them— but making a stink and removing our support are the main avenues we have.)
As Dana pointed out on Twitter this morning, you don’t have to give Disney money to show your love for the show— she shouted out Etsy artists, and I have a fantastic pair of golden 3D-printed light glyph earrings— if you’re looking for merch, I highly recommend fan merch.
