Michael was often busy with work, and Jack was often busy with lighting the lamps and trying to catch up on sleep. so, unfortunately, it wasn’t often that the two of them were able to meet together in private and actually speak to one another.

Oftentimes, during those long intermissions between the rushes of their lives, Jack does all of the talking. Jack grins and bounces and jogs ahead of Michael as they’re walking through the park at night, jogging ahead of Michael to make grand gestures with his hands or his whole body. Michael often smiles that sweet smile of his, his hands in his pockets. It was nice to hear Jack talk about his exciting life; it breaks up the monotony of his own.

Mary Poppins had been right, of course - the adults did forget their imagination. Jack never truly did, though, but Michael lost his.

Tonight was finally one of those nights where they sun seemed to be glued to the bottom of the horizon, casting a warm orange glow out and across the gorgeous expanses of the park. Michael and Jack were walking together, and had been for quite some time. Jack was talking about something a fellow leerie had done earlier in the week, and when he stopped talking, Michael stopped waking. “Is it just me, or has the sun not moved an inch since we started walking?”

“Hm?” Jack looked at him, then at the sun, and then back again. “Nope, nope, the sun has most certainly moved, Michael. It has definitely moved.” His hands shoved into his pockets, and Michael rose a brow at him.

“I am not so sure…” Michael felt for his watch in his pocket, and upon pulling it out, made a sound of surprise. “How entirely odd! It’s already nine-thirty and the sun has not even moved one bit? How is this even possible?”

Jack looked around for a moment, before blurting easily: “I did it.”

Michael blinked. “What?”

“I did it, Michael.”

“You held up the sun from setting? I highly doubt that that’s true…” Michael drifted off as he watched Jack lift a hand and snap his fingers, and the sun finally moved rapidly downwards until it sunk and plunged them into lamplit darkness.

Michael swallowed. “This is not true. I am dreaming.”

“Michael, Mary Poppins did this for me.” He shook his head, rocking his weight between his feet, looking at the ground. “Mary Poppins gave me magic when I was small. I used a bit to hold up the sun to spend time with you.” Jack looked up at him for a moment, shifting his weight, and Michael couldn’t help but stare.

“I simply must be dreaming.”

“Would you like me to pinch you? I can do that too- I can do lots of things, to be quite honest with you, but pinching your arm to prove that this is real is something I think I can do the best out of all things.”

“Jack…” He took a breath before shaking his head bashfully and smiling. “You held up the sun for me.”

“Just a few more minutes of daylight can’t have really hurt anyone, now could it?” He smiled at him, flapping his hands at his sides now, and Michael looked around. “Did you stop people too?”

“I believe I did.”

“That’s good. Very good, actually.”

“What, why?”

“Kiss me.”

“What?”

“Kiss me. We haven’t done it yet and I’m very interested in seeing- mmf!” Michael was cut off by a kiss, and before he knew it he was melting into it.

He got to kiss the boy who held up the sun for him.

i love naming things :o how about xiomara? it means “battle ready” and sounds super rad and also sound like a very unfitting name for a lil baby plant

it's perfect and i love it! he names it this without a shred of irony about it, either, bc ruben's love of melodramatic naming is important and canon and this is exactly his level of extra.

do you talk about how beej and lydia met in the reboot? i’m so curious!!

we don’t mention it directly - at least not in the episode we’ve written - but since the maitlands are in this show you can assume everything went preeeeetty much the same as it did in the movie/musical!!!

we mostly draw from the musical for stuff like that, so the whole haunting thing happened, etc. etc. i can’t reveal too much about anything past that though!!! spoiler alert... u know how it goes.

the shows set after those events so lyds & beej are SUPER close. they’re best friends!!!! they have the funniest dynamic ever and i love them and i really wanna stay as close to that as possible :.) beej is just like lydias weird fun uncle. a funkle. funkle beej

1. Favorite place to write.

i usually do most of my writing in my room, but actually i think my very favourite moments of writing are the ones that always hit me when i’m out so i have to stop in the middle of walking somewhere and take a minute to furiously type a note of it on my phone, then i walk three more steps and have to go add more because i kept having ideas.

4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

not as such - i usually have to have music or a podcast on in the background, i like to have a coffee or a tea, and very often i’ll light an incense stick, but i don’t always do all of them

30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.

i have written way too many lines to answer this. i think some of my best writing is in watch with serenity, though. i like this one:

Outside the city’s as dead as it ever gets, the lingering lights of the sleepless and the shift workers and the late-night straggling partiers struggling home with their buzz fading in the early hours. Their paths intersect but don’t intercept: Usnavi walking widening concentric circles with his headphones in, so tired he can’t feel tired any more. There’s nobody in his apartment, and this is almost like sleep, a walking meditation through the liminal hours of life.
