ppl be like ‘I would be invested in yuri if it focused on adults’ or ‘I would be into it if it included other elements like fantasy’ and ‘oh but if it wasn’t super male gazey!!!’ but then whenever we do get that stuff- and it’s good!- the fandom is tiny. :/ I see how it is.
(being sad about otherside picnic) (I know the anime isn’t good but the manga and light novels are and if it was anything else people would be reading those and talking about them more) (also it would have gotten an anime with a budget)
(same for readers of regular books too. There are tons of good indie novels focusing on women in love, use google)
Jon: Dany, can we talk, one ten to another?
Daenerys: I’m an eleven but continue.
Here’s a fun piece of movie trivia: At the same time Eddie Redmayne was winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Theory Of Everything, he had a film in theaters in which he gave what some consider to be the worst performance of the entire year. That film was Jupiter Ascending—a truly bonkers movie in which Redmayne manages to stand out as particularly bonkers. Recently, in an interview with GQ, the actor offered an explanation for his pouty, whispery portrayal of space autocrat Balem Abrasax, which he acknowledges is pretty fucking weird.
“My character had had his larynx ripped out by this wolf man, and so I made the slightly bold choice—which I thought was right—of talking like this,” Redmayne says, putting on the breathy, choked affectation he uses throughout the film. He adds that at the time he thought the voice suited the costume and elaborate sci-fi world of the film, but in retrospect can see that it may have been a bit much. “I won a prize for it for the worst performance of the year,” Redmayne adds, referring to his 2016 Razzie award for Worst Supporting Actor. “So, yeah, it was a pretty bad performance by all accounts.”
Eddie, sweetie - you’re breaking my heart. You’ve got to ignore the basics. You’ve got to know that you gave a tremendously OTT and dialled up performance in a tremendously OTT and dialled up film (which I continue to love from the depths of my being). You gave no fucks and threw yourself into it, and because of that people love your performance. I can confidently guarantee that you gave the best performance as a vocally impaired intergalactic overlord with monumental mother issues and stomping lizard servants ever committed to film. Own it!
Did you get into the zine?
To my heartbreak, no. I won't get to participate this year, but I really like the story idea I've kept in my back pocket specifically for the zine, so I'm still planning on writing and sharing it regardless.Last year I applied with little more than earnest enthusiasm and untempered talent, but this year I hit that submit button like I had it in the bag, because I had a carefully cultivated sample selection of my fluff abilities, a game plan for not one but TWO story ideas, as well as a bigger online presence.Sure, maybe I was a little full of myself, but confidence is not a predominant trait of mine when it comes to my own aspirations, so while I am disappointed my application wasn't selected, the fact that a lot of that disappointment stems from the fact I had so much confidence in my application is a success in and of itself!
Fanfic Author Appreciation Day
God, where do I even begin with something like this? I’ve only been posting for the fandom I’ve made my home in since, what, October 2018 maybe? And even then this is first for me; I’ve never been in a fandom other than this one. I didn’t even realise this was a thing! But, since it is, I figured I might as well show my own bit of love and support for all the absolutely amazing writers out there, constantly turning out piece after piece – free of charge – for all of us to enjoy and experience along with them.
Writing is a journey, a maze of emotions that we all love to get lost in; whether you be a writer or a reader, a fan of smut or lover of angst. It can be a real struggle at times, a monster of a piece (whether it amount to 500 or 5,000 words) and still we battle and wrestle with them, fight for the right words or to make that one little scene something grand and monumental, to alter that one specific moment in canon that we just didn’t like or can’t bring ourselves to accept; to conquer them and then share in the spoils with anyone that may pass us by.
I may not talk to a lot of other fanfic writers – barely any even (regrettably so), but I want you all to know that: yes, I see you; yes, I love that crazy idea of yours; yes, I appreciate you and every piece that you put out there; and, most of all... yes, I am so so proud of you all! 💖💖💖
Happy Fanfic Author Appreciation Day everyone ☺️
