To my fellow privileged, this is one of the big takeaways: "Historically, all political parties have participated in the systematic disenfranchisement of Black people."
Not just political parties even. We're all complicit to the extent if we don't vote, don't make noise, don't express our discontent with the status quo.
That's not a threat, but an opportunity. That isn't me telling you've been a bad privileged person by not doing something about something you didn't consciously start or support, but rather me telling you that it's incumbent on us to listen, acknowledge, and act accordingly because we do have options.
There are no exemptions from this responsibility to act as far as intent, because the impact of instutional, passive, and overt racism is clear as the numbers on a frequency distribution. "I didn't start it" and "I'm not racist [as ridiculous a statement as THAT is] so this doesn't apply to me" are not acceptable cop outs.
