Another special detail on this 29er frame: I made this lug which strengthens the top of the seat tube and saves some weight. More strength was needed than just a regular 1.125" seat tube, but a 1.25" seat tube would have been overkill- so, I made this lug from scratch which reinforced all the areas I needed to, and saved around 100 grams compared to going with a full length 1.25" seat tube. This frame has a low top tube height/standover, and in cases such as this, the brace between the seat tube and top tube allow me to avoid having too much exposed seat post which can snap a post or crack a frame- instead the seat tube is even more supported and the amount of post sticking out of the frame is kept at a reasonable amount. The other detail visible here is the forward facing seat tube slot: I like to run my St slots forward to help keep water out of the frame- in wet conditions when water is spraying up from the rear wheel, a rear facing slot can be pretty much a direct shot, spraying water directly into the seat tube. ----> #29er #mtb #mountainbike #steelisreal #truetemper #oxplatinum #framebuilder #custom #tig #lug (at Pioneer Valley Frameworks)
