What am I going to do after I finish school? That’s a question that has been haunting me for at least a year. There are so many options, so many interesting jobs out there, but which one is right for me? I didn’t know a year ago and I’m still not sure. That’s the reason why going abroad again was the best option for me. At first I was thinking about going to the US again but I figured why not go to a country I haven’t been to yet. Ozeania and especially New Zealand always seemed extremely fascinating to me so I started looking into the things you can do there. I know a few people who have been to Australia and did work and travel but I didn’t want to do that for a whole year. I searched the Internet and came across an organisation called Travelworks. I checked out their website and found some interesting programs all around the world. One of them was the au pair program in Australia. Since I had 3 au pairs myself when I was a child I really liked the program and decided to apply. 12 months was too long for me so I applied for 6 months giving me the opportunity to visit other countries too. After doing an internship in my former kindergarten I got accepted by the agency.
As of right now there is one family living close to Canberra that is interested in having me as their au pair. An advantage is that they pay extremely well. The downside is that they are looking for an au pair to live with them until the beginning of July which is a very short period of time. I haven’t made a decision yet but it looks like I’ll take the offer and leave Germany as soon as possible.
