Could ot be The Owl Service?
i've actually watched the tv adaptation of the owl service and thinking about it there are a lot of similarities but the memory of this book didn't occur to me when i watched it so i can't have read it before unless its rly drastically different from the tv show
ozu-teapot: I agree although I think Reservoir Dogs is OK too... It's fun to watch but I don't think of it as a great example of a crime film, though landmark 90's cinema for sure
