in my life | natalie & benjy
(( @natalicdupont ))
July 1979 The Ritz, Wizarding Mayfair, London.
It was strange to be sitting so still. Even if every inch of his body was itching to get moving, to do something other than sit with his back perfectly straight, his shoulders back, his head held high, Benjy knew he had to stay put. He was after all in one of the oldest and most renowned places in all of London. And he was about to have high tea with one of his oldest friends. Well the word friends might not actually apply anymore. He wasn’t sure. It had been so long. And then he had never actually reached out to check on her after what had happened to her brother. Well he had, but not in the way friends should. He had not shown up with food or anything remotely designed to made her feel better. He had been there, but as any other member of pureblood society had, because it was what was expected from them. That was why when her name started to be mentioned next to the likes of Rodolphus Lestrange and the less friendly members of the House of Black, Benjy had worried about his friend.
Dear Natalie,
I How I was How have you been? I know silly question right? People probably ask you that all the time. But I was really thinking about that, about how you’ve been. I know it’s been a while, and I could blame work, the war, anything really but but the truth is that I haven’t been a good friend. Well I I’ve been thinking about when we were kids, remember? We used to play tea all the time. I guess now is as good time as ever to confess that I played mainly because you always gave me food. I’m kidding. Well not really. I was wondering if maybe you’d like to have tea. Like grownups this time. I miss you.
Benjy
He had probably written about a dozen letters, and threw all of them in the trash can, before he finally decided that what he was holding in his hand was as good as it was going to get. He felt as if something was missing, and it probably was the months since they had finished school and now, it was all the time they had not talked other than passing, or the polite conversation at some pureblood event. And then it was the war. The war that seemed never ending, looming over them. Would she become one more person in the list of those that were on the other side of things. No. Not her. Benjy had even used his family’s seal, the ring he had tucked away in one of his drawers finally being used, and he sent the letter with one of his family’s owls, that way the bird would have no trouble reaching Natalie, as it was on the high priority list since their families knew each other. All in hopes that there would be nothing to keep him from reaching out.
He had nervously waited for the reply, and now he was waiting for Natalie to arrive. Benjy was wearing fine and elegant dress robes, following proper etiquette he had called ahead and made a reservation, and had arrived on time (a first, since he was always running late), and was now trying his best to behave and not start drumming his fingers on the table. Thankfully his old friend arrived. ❝Hey Nats❞ he said with a smile, ❝it’s been a while, uh?❞ Benjy stood up to greet her and walked to her side to get her chair, all his pureblood training kicking in, ❝I’m glad you could make it.❞
