head empty only getaran jiwa by p ramlee
As some of the CCS fans have been informed, Kodansha’s English translator did a big oopsie & mistranslated Kaito’s “name reveal”. We really thought dude was ‘Mana’ for one whole day. We trusted you. smh my head
That aside, during the time I still believed that Kaito was Mana, one song came to mind & it was none other than P. Ramlee’s “di manakan ku cari ganti” (where can I find one to replace?). Yes. One documentary translated the title as “Irreplaceable” which makes it short & sweet but I think that took away the whole helplessness of the character’s struggle.
My translations (& notes under the cut) :)
Happy birthday to Tan Sri P. Ramlee!!

Christmas tree up at Comforter's Hope
Maintaining a tradition I began in 2019, I fulfilled my annual commitment today to visit the Comforters Hope orphanage in Taman P. Ramlee to help set up their Christmas decorations. Every year, without fail, this pledge to bring festive cheer to the home is one I deeply honor. Today, alongside our fellow Good Samaritans—a wonderful group of volunteers—we spent meaningful time with the boys and…

There is nothing more disastrous that could happen to a community in Malaysia then when a Great Talent appears in the scene.
It's not just bad for the Great Talent — after the initial meteoric rise, culminating in a memorable series of works, the Great Talent then suffers the ultimate consequence for talent that can appear in Malaysia — they end up being unappreciated. Parasites appear, trying to capitalize on their work, or slavishly imitating them. Work gets harder, and times get tougher. It can get so bad that they realize that other nations have more appreciative and, most importantly, more paying audiences, than the sullen, jealous and petty audiences back home.
And inevitably, death claims them, and Malaysians realize, too late, that the person they didn't appreciate was truly great, and that their loss was incalculable.
And this is where the disaster truly strikes, because for a period of time, Malaysians mourn, and worse still, stunt their own growth in that mourning. Their works never go past or transcend the Great Talent's work. Everyone is so busy imitating the Great Talent, that they forget what made the Great Talent great, and never learn the lesson that, I guess, the Great Talent was supposed to instill — that the community needs nurturing, that the Great Talent didn't appear, unformed, from nothing.
And so for the next years — and in one case, for decades — that particular field of endeavour that the community revolves around wallows in mediocrity, mourning a great loss, while stifling it's own growth.
I call this shit, “Patah tak tumbuh lagi syndrome”.
