“Are you still alive in there?” Her mom asked as she opened Gina’s bedroom door. The girl just huffed from her floor. “Was destroying your room really necessary?” Gina didn’t have a response to that, just another, more dramatic huff, as she stood up and smoothed out her dress. She’d thought about what to wear for the past couple of days, way too much time than should really be spent on an outfit. She really missed wearing a uniform every day. And the constant “Is that what you’re wearing?”s from her mom weren’t any help. They were innocent and actually curious, but they sounded more judgmental than she could stand.
“Didn’t you say you were going out?” She asked, running a hand through her hair.
“To the movies.” Her mom confirmed following her out of the room and down the stairs.
“Yeah, shouldn’t you be going then? You know how much you like the previews.” She tried herding the woman to the front door like a sheep dog, but it wasn’t working.
“That’s you. I hate previews.” She sighed, crossing her arms with a calm and knowing smile. “Why don’t you want me to meet your friend?” Gina paused at that, unsure of why exactly she was so nervous. Why was her stomach doing flips at the idea of her mom meeting Declan. She swallowed the answer hard as soon as it rose to her tongue. It was ridiculous and she wouldn’t give it any more thought.
“I just don’t want you to steal my date. You’ll talk for an hour and then just invite him to the movies and I’ll be third wheeling it the whole time. Not thank you.” Her mom opened her mouth, more than likely already equipped with a sarcastic remark, when there was a knock on the door. “Oh shit.” Gina cursed as her mom smirked.
