Sappy Birthday || Grillie
The weekend had been wonderful. Truly, her father had pulled all the stops to throw Billie and incredible birthday party equal part fun and touching. Family and friends spent close to 48 hours surrounding her with love and joy and she truly felt blessed. But she couldn’t help but feel a little empty.
Bryan and Bruce did try to convince her to stay one more day, even though they knew they’d have to work anyways, but they let her go after she promised she wouldn’t spend her actual birthday alone. Which was only partly false. While most of her day had been spent locked inside her apartment with the two dogs as only company as she took some time to meditate on her new situation, the moment she didn’t feel like being on her own, Billie texted the only person she could stomach to see on such an occasion. Most of the people she knew had been incredibly kind and supportive over the past 6 months, but Grant was the only person who both understood and supported whatever she was going through without pitying her. He wasn’t there to say what he thought she wanted to hear, he was just there, always, and to be frank that’s the only thing she needed most of the time.
Billie was interrupted by frantic yelps in the hall and scratches at the door. There had only been one person lately that elicited such a strong reaction from Gary, and from her spot on the couch, the young woman yelled out. “Come in! it’s not locked!”
