All she had wanted was a cup of hot chocolate. The desire for something warm was what had lured her out of the camp base established in the university’s science department. It hadn’t occurred to her that the electricity would cut out and she would be left in the darkness.
She was on edge already as she shuffled around the building, her trademark smile no longer adorning her face. Through the darkness she could just make out a figure, lanky and tall, resting against a wall just down the dark hallway. She mumbled a mousy ‘hello’ before attempting to continue on her way past, but by the way the person stepped slightly in front of her she guessed that maybe that wasn’t what they had in mind. A rough hello from the person told Sophie she was standing in front of a guy. ‘He seems nice enough,’ she thought to herself, ‘Maybe he just needs some direction, maybe he has a flashlight’.
It took Sophie about 5 minutes to realise this guy, apparently called ‘Luke’, didn’t need directions at all and did not have a flashlight. She began wringing her hands around and around, hoping that she could find some polite way of escaping from this uncomfortable situation. At a loss of what to do she smiled forcibly and trying to think of some way to tell this guy she wasn’t interested, at all.
And almost as if he had heard her thoughts Roman walked down the hall, torchlight and all. Sophie wanted to move towards him however the other’s boy’s glare made her as still as a statue. “Roman?” she asked, the wavering in her voice betraying how uncomfortable she felt. “That you?”
