@reapiing-souls This was to be a quick and dirty mission. Sombra’s talents weren’t even needed. Just Reaper to cover while Widowmaker made her kill. Seemed Talon had them focused on leaders of sorts lately. This one was involved with some American cause. Truth be told, Widow had not cared to have much information on this one. She knew her target, and that was it. The details were immaterial to her. She killed without a thought, she killed for that brief rush. Forget the rest. Spraying some undesirables down while her weapon was still in its submachine mode, she contacted Reaper on her comm. “I am moving to my intended position,” she said, slapping her venom mine on the wall, to prevent further adversaries. She then climbed to her perch to get ready for her kill. “Keep my target within range.” She lowered her visor as she waited for them to come into view.
@rcssian-sniper
Those who were not with Talon were against them. This new target was of some interest to Reaper and his little laundry list, but apparently not enough that he would see to the job himself.
Thus, Widowmaker was assigned it. Take out a fellow sniper. Perfectly manageable-- especially when the target wasn’t surrounded by security and other obstacles.
Having set her trap, her venom mine hid by his front door to disable him once he came home. And the she would take her shot from the building across the way. Quick and easy. She’d be back in France by morning.
Hold Me Like the River Jordan || Rade
Jade had been at Robbie’s all day, forcing him to watch tv with her, letting him show her the stuff he’d been working on for film class— anything to keep her occupied and get her mind off of the gigantic elephant in the room. Contrary to what she’d told Trina, she had no intention of thinking about it or talking to Tori anytime soon; right now, she just wanted to push it as far away as she could, and focus on something, anything else. The only problem was, it was getting late: she’d have to try and go to bed soon, and that had been something that was really hard for her lately. On the rare occasion that she actually managed to drift off, her rest was always disturbed by vivid, haunting nightmares. The only things that helped her relax were either a) spooning with Tori, or b) snuggling with Sophocles, and since she’d left both her fiancée and her stuffed dinosaur back at the apartment, neither of them were viable options for a pre-bedtime snuggle-fest. Which, unfortunately, left just one option.
"Robbie!" Jade bellowed. "Come here. I need you."

With a quick goodbye to his dad, Robbie left the apartment. He caught a cab and gave the driver Jade’s address, obsessively checking his phone every few minutes to see if she’d texted him back. He had wanted to find the strength to make up with Jade before now but… he shook his head. What happened, happened, and he’d be damned if he lost Jade’s friendship again. Even if that meant wearing down the battery on his phone by checking his texts every other minute. The cab finally pulled up to Jade’s apartment and Robbie tossed a couple bills at the man, then went inside, finding the familiar apartment easily. He knocked a few times, but realizing Jade might still be in bed, he decided to see if the door was open. “Hello?” he called, poking his head in.
"In here," Jade called back. She was sitting on the bed, curled into a ball with her arms clamped around Sophocles’ neck. Her pill bottles were resting on the nightstand beside a single razor blade she’d been staring at longingly for almost two hours now. She couldn’t really describe how she was feeling or what she was struggling with, but she knew that being alone right now wasn’t the best idea.
Robbie followed Jade’s voice back to the room. He knocked once before going in, frowning slightly. “Hey,” he said, coming into the room. He sat on the bed by her feet and did a quick sweep of the room. Spotting the pills and the blade, he looked back at her. “I’m not gonna bother asking if you’re okay, because I kinda feel like that’s obvious. So I’m going to ask what you need.”
"I don’t know,” Jade replied. “I can’t think of anything that would help right now. Look at me. I’ve got nothing. Quinn’s gone. Tori left.” She held out her hand to show him the engagement ring the girl had left behind. “I just can’t help but wonder if maybe it would’ve been better if Beck hadn’t found me and I’d just… you know.” She shrugged. “It couldn’t possibly be any worse than this.”
Robbie frowned. “She left?” he asked. “She just…” He sighed and shook his head. When Jade continued though, he snapped his head up. “Don’t you dare,” he said. “You can be sad and you can be upset and you can be angry, but don’t you dare start on that whole ‘it would have been better if I died’ bullshit.” He reached forward, taking her hand in his. “Listen to me, Jade. You and I both know what it’s like to want to be dead, and we also both know what it’s like to want to fight, and to survive, and how much there is to live for.” He bit his lip and squeezed her hand softly. “You have to fight, and you have to keep going, because as much as it sounds like the biggest crock of shit on the planet right now, it will get better. You told me that, remember? Life fucking sucks right now, and it’s gonna fucking suck for a long time, but when have you ever given up a fight just like that?”
"Yeah, she did. We got in a fight and she just threw her ring at me and bailed, but that’s not the point!" Jade cried, her eyes welling up with tears. "The point is that I did this. All of it. I cheated, I hurt my best friends and my girlfriend, I got myself knocked up, and then on top of all of that I fucking killed my baby, too.” She bit her lip, refusing to look Robbie in the eye. “Quinn was supposed to be my silver lining to all this; the one good thing that came out of all my bullshit. They were gonna be my chance to finally do something right. I thought for sure I could at least manage that. I mean, people have babies all the time. It’s not like it’s hard. But I managed to find a way to screw that up, too. I did everything I could to protect them and keep them safe and it didn’t fucking matter!” She broke off, trying to force herself to stop and breathe for a second. She knew she was going off on a tangent and probably wasn’t making much sense, but she couldn’t stop herself. It felt good to finally let everything out, even if Robbie didn’t understand. “You have no idea how this feels. How it is to know you’re responsible for someone else’s life and have it all be fine one day only to have it ripped away from you the next. It doesn’t matter if Beck doesn’t blame me, because I blame myself enough for the both of us.I feel so unbelievably guilty, I can’t even stand it. Maybe it’s karma or something, but either way, it sucks. I might be resilient or whatever it is you called me, but right now I just don’t see the point of ‘surviving’. I’m tired of everything I touch turning to shit. My friendships, my relationship, my kid— my entire life. I can handle a lot of things, Shapiro, but I don’t think I can do this.” She paused, casting her eyes down as her voice started to tremble. “I just don’t wanna fight anymore.”
Robbie frowned as Jade spoke. When she finally finished, he didn’t say anything. Instead he got up, kicked off his shoes, and scooted into bed next to her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and pulling her close. “Listen to me very carefully,” he said softly, tilting her head up. “Jade. Listen to me.” He sighed and nodded. “I don’t know what it’s like, you’re right. I don’t know exactly what you’re going through, but I do know what it feels like to want to give up. I know what it’s like to not see the point in fighting any more and I know what it’s like to finally see a glimmer of hope again. You just need to keep holding on.” He rubbed her shoulder softly, looking down at her. “It’s normal to feel how you do after what you went through, but you need to know that it’s not your fault. You couldn’t have known this was going to happen. You didn’t kill your baby, Jade, they died. And it’s awful and it’s unfair and it shouldn’t have happened, but this is not your fault.”
Jade was slightly taken aback when Robbie joined her on the bed, drawing her against his side. They’d been friends for awhile, but it was no secret that she wasn’t the most touchy-feely person in the world, and she honestly couldn’t recall if she’d ever even so much as given Robbie a hug. Still, there was something oddly comforting in it. For the past few days she’d sworn she wanted nothing more than to be left alone, to wallow in her misery and try to paste her broken pieces back together as best she could, but it hadn’t helped like she’d thought it would. It was odd that Robbie, the person who she’d probably hurt more anyone, was the one who was trying to help. She’d take it, she decided. She wasn’t in any position to turn down a friend.
Jade tossed Sophocles off the side the of the bed, scooting closer to Robbie and wrapping her arms around his bony ribcage. Her head turned to rest against his chest. She could hear his heartbeat thumping in her ear, dull and steady. It reminded her of the day she’d gone to the hospital, sick and dehydrated, and had been allowed to hear Quinn’s heartbeat for the first time. She remembered sitting there in awe at the tiny bomp bomp bomp coming out of the Doppler machine.
Now, sitting here with Robbie, she was starting to realize she’d never get to hear that again.
A fresh wave of sadness washed over her, and with a small sob, she started to cry. It was the first time she’d shed a single tear since everything had happened, and she knew it was going to be awhile before she’d be able to stop. Jade hid her face in Robbie’s collar so he wouldn’t see. “Promise me it’s not my fault,” she whimpered. “I need to hear it. Please.”
Robbie held Jade closer when she wrapped her arms around him. When she started crying, he paused but started rubbing her back again. “Shh,” he cooed. “I got you. I’m here. It’s okay.” When he heard her words, he looked down at her. “I swear, Jade,” he said. “There’s no way this is your fault. I promise.” He kissed her head and held her tight. “You’re okay, I got you…”
"I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. For everything.”
Robbie shook his head, still rubbing slow circles into her back. “Don’t,” he said. “Don’t be.” He looked down at her and sighed. “You already apologized and I should have just forgiven you a long time ago.” Patting her back, he rested his head on hers. “You’re gonna get through this, Jade. I know it seems impossible, but you will.”
"I hope you’re right." She sighed. "Would you… would you mind staying with me for a little while? Tori’s not coming back tonight, and I don’t wanna be alone just yet."
”Of course I don’t mind,” he said. “I told Beck I’d go see him in the morning, but if you need me here tomorrow, too, I’ll stay. I’ll even make breakfast if you want. Lactose-free chocolate chip pancakes are my specialty.” He offered a small smile and looked down at her again. “I mean it, Jade, you’ll always be my best friend.”
Jade managed a watery smile back at Robbie. “And you’ll always be mine.”
Sorting It Out || Rade
After sending her last text to Robbie, planning to meet up with him at the park by Hollywood Arts, Jade thoughtlessly tossed her phone onto the floor beside her. It made a loud thunk and visibly startled her bunny, who'd been sleeping soundly in her lap. "Sorry, little guy," she whispered, reluctantly scooping him back into his cage. "I'll be back soon, okay?" She grabbed her purse from the floor and her keys from the nightstand, stomping out the door and getting into the car. As she wound her way through the streets to the park, she thought back over Robbie's and her last conversation, inwardly cringing a bit at some of the things she'd said. Even though she'd been upset, she'd still gotten pretty out of line, and she knew she needed to apologize, not only because it was the right thing to do, but also because... well, Robbie'd been a pretty good friend to her over the past couple of months, and she didn't particularly want to lose that over something stupid like this.
Jade finally got there, stopping her car in front of the playground and getting out. She made her way to a worn picnic table, sat down, and pulled her phone out of her pocket to text Robbie: "I'm here. At the picnic tables by the monkey bars."
