On July 22, 1944, Operation Frantic III began – the first American shuttle mission led solely by fighters between Italy and Soviet bases. P-38 Lightnings and P-51 Mustangs attacked airfields near Buzău and Ziliştea. The Americans reported 44 aircraft destroyed. #WW2 #OperationFrantic #P51Mustang
