Lacerate (Jamie & Zayn)
It was unfortunate, truthfully, that Zayn was so inexperienced and clumsy with hunting. He had interest, of course, knowing that it was his chosen duty and the only real job he was qualified for within the realm of paranormal goings-on. He hadn’t been bestowed with the gifts of his family, and they simply would not accept the idea of him not being a part of that side of life. Going to a normal school and having a normal sort of job was out of the question, and thus he had been placed in the only way that he was skilled enough to do. And it seemed proven that he wasn’t abundantly skilled at that either.
Sure, he could handle himself, and he knew how to take care of his weapons and had killed before. But he was still learning, still figuring out how to get away cleanly and how to avoid unnecessary encounters. He was too arrogant, so his mentor informed him, and relied too much on his denial that he wasn’t going to die. He had no measure for believing in such a way, only that he refused to acknowledge that he could die by one of the beings that he was trained to hunt.
He’d gone out to the city that evening, not for any real purpose other than to get acquainted with the city that stood near the academy. For the past few years, he had been a long way gone from this city, so it was all completely new to him. Zayn had stepped into various bars and clubs, with no real interest in any of them particularly, only to see the occurrences that inhabited his new-found residence. He’d stepped into cafes, and walked past restaurants, and glanced upon shop-windows. It was only when he ran across the distinct appearance of one of the dark creatures that he gave pause in his exploration.
Looking so different, Zayn tended to stand out from the crowd, so he ensured that he stepped back behind a building so as not to be seen. Though he generally didn’t attack without a good reason, he was carefully suspicious of the other being. It didn’t take long before the other made a move, attacking some passerby who crossed his path on the stillness of the sidewalk. After that it was a bit of a blur, Zayn knew that he attacked and had shot the other, but the creature was fast. He’d dug into the hunter’s arm, tearing into the sensitive flesh there. Thankfully, it seemed as though the being wasn’t intent on harming him further than it needed to get away, and Zayn was left alone on the sidewalk.
He knew the wound wasn’t fatal, that it was painful and more of a burden than anything. The hunter had called a cab back to the school, covering his arm in the jacket he’d taken with him so as not to cause alarm. When he reached the school, he knew that he needed to be quiet so as not to raise suspicion or wake people up, so he slipped quickly into his room in order to grab his first aid supplies and slipped back out. Zayn knew that there were vampires who may well be drawn to the scent of blood, but he aimed to try and get it done quickly. The thought of going to the nurse barely passed over his mind, too stubborn to do as such.
Standing outside of the dorm building, he attempted to clean the wound with some gauze, needing to see the full extent of the damage that was done to him. However, working one-handed proved to be a bit more difficult than he had bargained for, and his attempts seemed to actually be making it worse. A few curses slipped from his mouth, but he only attempted to continue.
