".... Kindle will be fine. With him taking the people to safety, I am certain nothing will happen to them. I trust him..." commented the male softly before taking in a deep breath and turning once more, his shoulders slumping. Who would have ever thought this to be happening? Years ago... When he had first started his journey... When he had gone through tough times and hardships... He had never expected something like this to have happened...
But the world as they knew it was crumbling apart. Perhaps Lysandre had been right... But the way he had tried to fix things... They had not been correct, had they? Yet here he stood... And people would die, Pokémon would die...
Swallowing once, he turned his head a bit. He desired to have Kindle by his side, like it always had been. But he wanted to keep his trusted partner safe... He knew the other would take care of Jules and his family if needed... He knew this... And yet...
Jackson frowned as he looked through the letter, lips pursing before his head slowly lowered, shoulders slumping down. "You know, Kindle... The way of life can be free and beautiful, but..." he frowned, the words of war entwining together before him. "We have lost the way... Haven't we? Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate... I wonder... Long, long ago... The people lived without harming Pokémon, didn't they...? No Pokéballs.. No machinery..." he whispered out, slowly reaching out a trembling hand and scratching the other's mane with a faint smile.
"Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost..."
"It's time for another adventure, Kindle... Though I don't think either of us will enjoy this one." he commented, standing up and settling the letter on the table before walking off, the Arcanine looking back at the letter once before following after his trainer.
The last words called him to the front line, to help save the world as he had done so long ago.
That time, he had cheated death. He didn't think it would happen twice.
Taking in a deep breath, Jackson finally grasped the five Pokéballs he had on him, letting out Ashbel the Charizard, Charon the Nidoking, Tricera the Aggron, Merry the Sylveon and Sephtis the Gengar.
Jaeger looked at his sister and gave a solemn nod.
"... Come on team, for the future." commented Jackson, taking place on the Aggron and patting him twice. There would always remain conflicts... Wars... All would feel the sting of this.
"I don't want you to go, Jack! Please... Please, stay with me...!"
"... I can't... Mon Julie.... Understand... I can't--"
"Then let me come with you..!"
A family. Children. Was there a chance that such a thing would happen now? Or would they only ever remain dreams of a fool? So many plans he had gotten in his mind... He had wanted to propose to Jules. He had wanted to marry her. Make it a huge feast. A wonderful day, peaceful, joyful. No thought of bad things to come to mind.
It wouldn't happen now, would it.
"This place is old... Real old... No wonder why nobody found it before..." uttered Max, slowly turning around as the large canine stepped alongside her, keen eyes fixed upon the surrounding. There was something dark... A presence looming around this place. The canine felt it in every fiber of his being.
"Kindle... Wait up, you're going too fast!" uttered the girl, rushing after the Pokémon and grasping a bit of his manes.
It was near here. The canine was certain of it. So certain.

Letting out a startled cry, the girl latched onto the Arcanine, shutting her eyes tightly as she hid her face on the canine Pokémon, who merely growled softly in response, ears lowering to his skull and teeth bared.

But... Blinking twice, the Arcanine slowly lifted his head, ears perking up a tiny bit. Why was this so familiar... So very familiar, indeed... He had heard it many times, had he not... When he had been younger... Much younger... When that person was still...

"We're sorry! We're sorry! We didn't want to disturb you!" cried the girl as hellish blue eyes started glowing in the dark. The Arcanine hesitated for a while, shifting from one paw to another as he stared at those eyes, finally turning to look at Max and nudging her back. "K-Kindle...?" she uttered, receiving another nudge from the Pokémon and a low growl afterward. "You want me to go? But--"
A more demanding growl came in reply.

A few seconds of hesitance, and finally did the young trainer take the Pokémon's fluffy head between her hands, resting her forehead to his fur. "... I am trusting you on this... Please return after you have dealt with this, my friend..." she whispered, slowly letting go as the Arcanine gave her a reassuring lick on the cheek.

The blue eyes blinked once before slowly a man stepped out of the shadows, spiky hair and hellish blues hidden within yellow eyes. "Kindle... It has been forever, has it not..."
"Keeping away those foolish enough to come closer. You see, we have all made sacrifices in the past. And we have all picked our choices, even if they were bad. Even if they wrought forth destruction. You musn't forget... He tried. He tried really hard. He was getting desperate." commented the male, gesturing to the side with clawed hands. A mere illusion of the Gengar that truly stood before him. But then again, the other had always liked playing around with someone's mind...
'What happened to Jackson...'
At that, the man slowly glanced away, index finger rubbing over the skin of his thumb and eyes half-lidded. "Come now, you are a smart Pokémon, you always have been smart, Kindle. You know as well as I do what has happened... You just refuse to accept..." stated Sephtis softly, closing his eyes for a second.
'... I refuse to believe that. He wouldn't... Not with me--'
"He kept you safe. They all died."
'... N - no... Charon..?'
"First to fall. Protecting the team. He bled to his death and soon after his head got smashed in like a pumpkin. I'm sorry. But there's no doubt that he is no longer among us."
'.... Ngh... What of Tricera?'
"Took many enemies down with him. Hey, they got close... They got real close. But in the end, he was completely obliterated by the Pokémon of the leader of those idiots... He died a warrior's death. Just like he would have wanted, though."
The canine slowly hung his head, ears drooping.
'... What of Merry and Jaeger...'
"... Jaeger came to this place... Alongside Jackson, Ashbel, me and Merry... We were close to the final solution. But we didn't know the final solution wouldn't agree with us... He died. Protecting us from a rampaging God. Sometimes, I think I still see his soul wandering around this place..."
No. No he couldn't believe it. He had held the believe that at the end of this journey with Jackson's sister... He would find back what he had lost. His family. Those who had been along side him all the way. Merry... Merry who he had admired so. Who had played pranks along side him. Ashbel who had been like a father to him... Jaeger who had been such a funny little guy... Tricera, who had spoken to him such beautiful words and poems of days gone by... Charon who had always bickered with Sephtis, but in the end--
'Please.. Please tell me he's alive... Please...'
Sephtis remained silent, merely staring at the other before stepping forward, the ever present grin fading from his face as his illusion dropped and the Gengar reached out a claw, resting it to the other's muzzle.
'It hurts... J-Jackson... It hurts... Make it stop...' gasped the canine softly, a few bubbles of blood popping near her nose whenever she breathed, eyes closed. 'It hurts...'
"Merry..." murmured Jackson, slowly lifting a hand and stroking over the Pokémon's head. "... Remember our grooming sessions...?" he whispered, closing his eyes, a small trickle of blood slipping past his lips before he quickly licked it away. "Remember...?" he questioned with a trembling voice, causing her ears to twitch once.
'Yes... They were wonderful... I enjoyed... Them very much...'
"Imagine that scene right now... We're at home... Remember the home we bought? I was going to share it together with Jules and you guys. Remember the little spot in the garden you claimed your own? Imagine being there, Merry... And i'm grooming you, as well as I ever did..." he spoke softly, fingers gently running over the Pokémon's fur, earning a faint wag of the tail from the Sylveon.
"Good... Keep imagining it... Kindle will be playing somewhere in the background with your brother... And faintly, you'll hear Sephtis and Charon's ever teasing to one another... Célia is singing joyfully up in one of the trees... One of her favourite lullabies... Can you hear it?"
'Yes... Yes I hear it... it's so beautiful.. So beautiful...'
And all the Gengar could do was stare quietly into the darkness, claws balled together in fists and the grin that usually was so present upon his face had faded into a grimace. Close by him stood Ashbel, tail curled around him and head bowed.
They could only listen... Listen to Jack's soft voice. Listen to the breathing of Merry that only grew worse and worse. Until there was no more breath to be heard.
'This was idiotic to begin with.. This whole plan. Front lines... What kinda shit is that...' snarled Sephtis finally, earning a blazing glare of the Charizard aside him. 'Shut up, Seph. Just...' Ashbel stopped, instead glancing back to Jack, who had bitter tears running down his dirtied cheeks, staining the fur of the Sylveon who laid halfly over his lap, her head rested to his stomach.
'Jack, we should leave this place. There is no time to linger. Come on.' spoke the lizard Pokémon finally, turning to walk over to his trainer, lowering his head.
'Give it a rest, Ash. You're not an idiot. You have felt the change, haven't you. Jack's dying. We protected him. But not good enough. He got hurt, in more ways then one...'
"You're too perspective, as ever Sephtis..."
'... So... Then we get you to the hospital. I'm not going to--'
"Please, Ashbel... My body's broken... I'm bleeding internally... I don't think I have much longer left..." he whispered, slowly lifting his head to look at the Charizard. "You two should go while you still can... Please... There has been enough death..." he murmured. 'You can't expect me to just leave you here--'
'No, Ashbel. That's exactly what he's asking of us. So. Just leave this damned place. We were doomed from the beginning. This had no happy ending.' commented the Gengar, looking over his shoulder at the Ashbel once before looking back at Jackson, giving a last nod as he faded away in the shadows.
'Jackson.. Please. Kindle will be waiting for you... And Jules...'
"... They don't need a dead body, Ashbel..." murmured the blonde-haired, eyes drooping as he rested his head back to the rocks for a second. "Please.... I'm begging you... Just live... Leave... And live..." he finally pleaded, causing the Charizard to take a step back. Yet, no matter how much he wanted to protest, he came to silence at the look upon the other's face.
'There's nothing I can do for you... Is there?'
There was a barely unseeable shake of the head from the trainer.
'... Thank you for everything...'
With a last look to his trainer, the Charizard turned away, tears streaming down as he rushed off, wings flat to his back to gain speed. Leave this place, as the other desired so...
There was a long silence before a faint smile curled around his lips. "Still here... Sephtis... Aren't you...? No need... to remain silent.... your presence... I feel it.."
Giving a scoff, the Gengar finally rose from the shadows, a scowl upon his face. 'I can't leave. Listen, you little prick. I'm not leaving either. This place. I'll stay here. Aslong as needed.'
"Then.. Keep people... away from the... the one... that should not be awakened..." forced out the male, closing his eyes. "Please..."
There was a silence that rung afterward, the only reward being given to the Ghost - Pokémon being the smile that his trainer left upon his face. And there was an overwhelming sadness that over took the Gengar for a second.
'J-Jeez, stupid little kid..! Little bastard... What a stupid way to go. You're such an idiot... Such a fucking...' he stopped, leaning back a bit before turning away. 'Idiot...'
Kindle yelped, jolting back and staring at the Gengar with wide eyes, before a howl ripped through the cave.
To this day, there have still been reports of a Gengar and an Arcanine guarding the entrance to a cave. Only once an old woman had been brave enough to come close. It is said that she told the canine it was okay. That he was allowed to go now. That there was no need to wait any longer.
Rumours and stories bloomed from the two Pokémon. The cave was to be avoided at all cost.
And even now, after a thousand years still... There are rumours and sightings of the Pokémon still.
Or maybe, a mere illusion...
