Tough day to do a #longrun, cold and still really windy. For one 6-mile stretch on Rt. 123, I ran non-stop into the teeth of the wind. It was brutal but I suspended any concerns about pace and just got the miles done. Thanks to the @runpacers Fairfax team for keeping my phone safe after I accidentally left it there 15.6 miles into my run. I didn't realize it until I had gotten home. It's nearly the end of the line for those @brooksrunning PureCadences in the picture. After today they are at 295 miles, and I look to retire shoes after 300. They've served me very well. Luckily I have a new pair that I'm breaking in right now. Piecemealing the miles

These days it's a challenge to get all the runs in amidst everything else going on in life, and I've had to get creative at times. Today for example, the plan said 20 minutes of warmup, 10 x 25-second striders at 5k-mile effort, with 1-minute recovery jogs, then another 20 minutes of cooling down. What really happened: I didn't have time to run on my own in the morning, so I got about a 2400m warmup done on the track before my high school team's practice, then after they hit the roads, I did the strider workout, also on the track, and had time for about another 2400 cooldown. But that left me with not even 5 miles for the day. So later in the evening I joined the group at Pacers Fairfax and got in an easy 3.8 mile shakeout run. 8.7 miles, even chopped into 3 runs, sounds a lot better. Sometimes you do what you have to do. That said, hopefully tomorrow will be a little less hectic?

I may be getting ready to run #rocknrollneworleans in a week, but later this spring and summer I plan to make a pivot to short distances - really short, as in the mile. And that means I need new track spikes. Stopped in #pacersfairfax and @katehikerun hooked me up with this sweet pair of @saucony Vendettas. With my store reward I got them for just over $38.
