What is the value of philosophy and why ought it be studied? It is more necessary to ask the question, in view that the fact that many men, under the influence of science and practical affairs, are inclined to doubt wether philosophy is anything better than innocent but useless triffling, hair-splitting distinctions and controversies on matters concerning which knowledge is impossible......if the study of philosophy has any value at all.......it must be only indirectly, through it's effects upon the people who study it. It is in these effects therefore that the value of philosophy must be primarily sought.
