At work we tend to lose people in threes. When we lost three managers in a week, that was rough but we made do. Now during this covid-19 bs we lost three boys in about six days.

One got another job and told us he would only be showing up for every other shift at this place be the times were inconvenient. Now I was gunning for this boy to be fired for about a month now. GM told him to not bother coming back at all. He used the N word at work and when I heard I wanted him gone. Boss lady was all “last chance Matt!” But I was all “get rid of the racist now!” But I am but a lowly opening manager and not the GM so I cannot fire him. But boy, I made his life hell for the past month. Everything i know he hates, I made him do. Hate cutting onions? Guess who cuts them from now on. Hate portioning out philly meat? Guess who does that every time I see him. Think portioning our fries are a pain? I need two cases done. I was out of make him miserable so it’s really no suprise that he quit. I was happy when they said he wouldn’t be back.

Guy number two, I was sad to see go. He was great. He was quiet and efficient and hard working. Great guy to have around. He just had no ambition or willingness to come in and help when we needed it. Which is fine, you don’t have to. When you clock out of our shitty sandwich and gelato shop if not your concern. But it took three months for him to get us his food handlers, something he should have gotten to us in the first two weeks. And he didn’t just quit. He walked out. In the middle of a shift. I came back from my break and looked around at the girls working and asked where he was. “We thought you told him to go home” “no! Did he leave??” “Yeah about ten mins after you went on break” fuuuccck. So I called him. He didn’t answer. So I called him seven more times until I annoyed him in to answering the phone. I asked where he was, I got “oh yeah I quit”. I asked him why and if there was anything specific causing this and he wouldn’t tell me and then he hung up on me. So that sucked.

Number three was a whole new kind of bad. Boys one and two were on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday I saw boy three doing something the wrong way so I told him how to do it the right way and he tried justifying it so I just gave him a look and he lost his shit he threw the thing in his hand on the floor and walked thru the kitchen out the back door. I followed because I cannot loose three guys in three days. Now, 3 just had a baby, like two weeks ago, so I thought he just was low on sleep and irritable so when I went out back and there was a semi blocking the drive way and he was sitting in his car vaping on something that was not just nicotine. I asked if he just needed a few minutes and he said yes, so I told him to come back in when he cooled down. Well, the next time I worked with him, I think it was the following Wednesday, he disappeared for like 45 mins. First thing I did was look to see if his car was out back. It was. Couldn’t find him tho and it was the middle of lunch so I couldn’t go hunt him down. He eventually showed up and I asked if he was okay and he said yeah, so I didn’t push. Well in Texas we have a no eating in dining rooms rule right now so people can come in to order and take their food to go but they cannot eat inside, but most use our drive thru. Well we had a guy come in and he ordered his food, I took his order and gave him his food, as he was leaving two more people walked in and GM asked 3 to help them. I don’t know what happened in the next two minutes but he ended up walking away from them tearing his headset off and throwing it on the ground. I yelled his name and he screamed “they are killing my baby” as he knocked things to the ground as he left.

Now. I know everyone is stressed right now. I know everyone is scared. But we were told if we didn’t want to work while this pandemic was going on then we were free to stay home and not work while it was dangerous but would still have jobs when everything was over. I cannot say he was wrong for being scared for his kid but he didn’t have to destroy shit or scream at me or anyone else. If he didn’t want to help the customers he could have told me and I would have taken care of it. But instead he threw his headset on the floor where it broke into three pieces and he screamed at us and the guests. I didn’t follow this time.

Anyway, i just wanted to bitch

A was sitting on break at work right? And a coworker comes up to me and sets down a can opener in front of me and sits across from me.

Only, it was in six pieces. Six. I am amazed by the ability of my coworkers to constantly break things.

I laugh, bc what else is to do when an employee bends you things that shouldn’t be possible? (I have never seen a can opener in more then two pieces, I didn’t know six was ever an option)

I fix. But still, I was just... tired and done with the day at that point and coworker gives me a six piece can opener and looks like she doesn’t want me to tell the owner she broke another thing, so I don’t, I fix it and send her away so I can finish my sandwich.

But, like, dude.
