Paciugo Gelato - Dallas, TX
Here is the second gelato spot to make the list, and it will not be the last. While some would argue gelato doesn’t belong on an “ice cream blog”, I say those are silly semantics. Ice cream and gelato are both super awesome, and this spot was top rated for “ice cream in Dallas” on yelp, so I defer any complaints to their headquarters!
I was in Dallas to work a conference at the Ritz which ended mid-afternoon on a Wednesday. The minute I was off the clock, my co-worker Ellen and I made a bee-line for Paciugo in Uptown. I was taken by my first sample of “Viola” - violet gelato, but actually every sample was insanely impressive! I ordered a small cup with three flavors - viola, panna cotta, and amarena black cherry swirl - and it was heavenly! I kept repeating my disbelief of how great this gelato was to Ellen, who then pointed out a chalkboard sign I had neglected to read at first - they had a gelato happy hour and, because my life is a series of fortunate events, it was taking place while we were there.
Because I don’t make it out to Dallas very frequently (nor the few other cities in which Paciugo has franchise locations, ie St. Pete, cities in OK and KS, or 2017 bucket list location Chicago), and a small cup was just not enough, I got right back in line and immediately ordered a medium cone on happy hour! The four flavors I cashed in on this time were: banana creme, coconut, pistachio and dulce de leche. Seven flavors and a sugar high later, I regret nothing.
