Wisconsin is for cheese and crackers, beer and Packers. Let's dominate today! 🏈🧀
It’s been almost a week since the Packers released Jordy Nelson, and I still can’t find the words to describe what I am feeling. Jordy has been my favorite player since day one, but player is not a big enough word. He was so much more than just my favorite player on my favorite football team. Jordy epitomized what it meant to be a Packer. I will never forget his brilliant performance in Super Bowl XLV, his catch against the Bears to continue “running the table,” him playing through broken ribs in the playoffs, coming back strong from a torn ACL, or just the way he worked from day to day. He was, of course, highly successful on the field (Aaron and Jordy’s chemistry will never be matched), but it was what he did off the field that made him truly one of the greats. From working on his family farm in the offseason to substitute teaching in Green Bay and working with countless charities. He is the type of person that everyone should aspire to be. Jordy will definitely be missed by Packer Nation.
I will miss seeing him bike down to practice, even though he had been with the team long enough that he didn’t have to. I will miss the big Jordy smile while goofing around with Aaron, Cobb, or Davante. I will miss the back should throws that only Aaron and Jordy could connect on. I will miss the Jordy Nelson Charity Softball game, which was passed down to him from Donald Driver, but supported a cause that he believed in so strongly. I will miss seeing him playing with his kids on the field at practice, family night, or the softball game. I will miss something as little as Jordy and Aaron twirling footballs in the end zone before every game.
Jordy is so intertwined into Packer football and the city of Green Bay, that there will definitely be something missing when he doesn’t take the field in the green and gold next season. I will miss so much about him, but I wish him luck in Oakland (luckily they are in the AFC, so I can still root for him to do well).
