aoty and song of the year
a Selfie with Weiland
1. When and how did you first get into making music?
I got into music from just from being bored all the time and having nothing to do, me and my friend decided to start making music and he did the vocals while I did all the engineering for him. One day I just decided to start doing my own songs so I teamed up with the producer 'Sky' and soon dropped my first song under the name Weiland called "Blue Bands". 2. How would you describe the hip-hop scene in Tampa, FL?
The hip hop scene in Tampa is pretty dead at the moment to be honest, but there are a few Tampa artists that I fuck with heavily. I just want Tampa to be on the music scenes map because thats my city and where I'm from.
3. Who are your three favorite producers to work with right now and why?
XanGang, Clibbo, and Riclaflare are my favorite producers because usually anything they send me to work on has great melodies that I think my voice sounds best with. Theres nothing like a producer that sends you a beat that you could either make a love song on or make a hype song on.
4. What’s the reason behind your fixation on Eikichi Onizuka from “Great Teacher Onizuka”?
I use a lot of pictures from GTO for my cover art mainly because back when I was a anime fiend, GTO was always a big favorite of mine. I always liked Onizuka as a character he acted wise and never gave a fuck about anything most of the time.
5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years and why?
In 10 years I'd be 26 years old, and thats the age I'm planning on starting to take life at a serious approach and begin to settle down. Around that time is probably when I'd be working hopefully a great job that I can enjoy and be living in New York.
6. Anything else you’d like to add?
Stay focused, never lose motivation and s/o to everyone who has been listening to my music and giving me support, I have a great fanbase and want all of them to know I love them.

“PACKRUNNER” by Weiland
Once you’ve spent enough time on Soundcloud and listened to enough music on the platform, you start to get a feel for analyzing the numbers different artists are putting up. For instance, songs always get fewer plays than they deserve if they’re at the end of an album that dropped all at once. Additionally, an artist averaging 20k plays a song with less than 10,000 followers is probably about to explode. With these statistic tendencies in mind, Weiland’s “PACKRUNNER” is an absolute monster of a release. Dude’s got 12k on track fuckin’ 16 of his album, and only has around 6,000 followers. Those are the types of numbers that tell you Weiland is clicking in a major way with his audience.
