I’ve totally fucked myself up with this one
A sketchpage commission of Packstrap’s fire elemental OCs. I loved figuring out how to make fire look like fire with just black lines.
Aw man, hope your day gets better :( I keep seeing your posts about SNMOM (or some similar acronym) and it sounds interesting - since it seems like a series you're really into, can you give me a rundown?
I should be doing better soon!! Thanks <3
Yes, SNMOM! It’s short for “Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars”. It’s a scifi/western/comedy/satire show in the style of old timey radio shows, part of the Thrilling Adventure Hour. It was released in podcast form, so it’s free to listen to! I have all the SNMOM eps listed here with links to their soundcloud, if you (or anyone else) wants to listen to it without having to wade through the whole TAH Soundcloud. (But if you enjoy it, my other fave show from TAH is Beyond Belief, which is about a constantly boozing married couple begrudgingly solving paranormal issues, and there’s many other shows to check out under the TAH umbrella.)
As for a rundown, it’s sort of a satire of old spaghetti westerns and shows like Lone Ranger (Croach is basically Sparks’ Tonto, for instance), but it’s set 1000 years in the future on Mars, so it has scifi tropes mixed in with the western tropes.
Sparks Nevada is the marshal of Mars, but he’s…from Earth. Croach the Tracker is a blue Martian who is under onus to Sparks on behalf of his whole tribe when Sparks saved them from a flood, so he has to follow him around and try to pay off the onus by helping Sparks. They bicker a lot because Croach is infuriatingly Martian and Sparks is infuriatingly human, but they’re both very endearing (and cute) in their own ways.
While all that makes it sound like it would be an adventurous show, it’s probably only about, like, 10% adventure and the rest characters bantering hilariously and wonderfully, awesome character growth that you wouldn’t expect from such a show, and Sparks’ inability to grow up and have a decent relationship, romantic or friendship-wise.
But I think you in particular might like SNMOM because of the Red Plains Rider, and how the show treats women characters in general. Like, despite the show being so much about Sparks’ relationships, it’s not dull or really that offensive, and the women are all independent and fascinating in their own ways, but Red particularly so. She was orphaned as a baby on Mars, raised in Croach’s tribe, ran away when she was older due to not feeling like she truly belonged, but finding that she doesn’t quite belong in human society very much either she wanders the plains of Mars stopping bad guys and generally being totally cool (and sometimes hilariously nerdy, as well).
And though I’m gushing about her being a Strong Female Character, what I especially love about her and the show is they don’t treat her like that. There’s no pointing out “wow isn’t she a strong female character aren’t we cool for doing this!!” nor even any characters that scoff at her for being a woman. If they scoff at her they scoff at her like they would at Sparks, then she shows them how wrong they were for scoffing at her. Ugh, I love that so much. I love Red. I could go on for a hundred pages but I won’t. But I think you might appreciate her!
IDK if this is a good rundown, but I hope you check it out! Being a podcast it’s at least much easier to do other things while it plays, unlike a TV show or movie, haha.

I'm not on tumblr much anymore, but what's happening with the Protomen? I keep hearing references to something having happened, but I can't figure out what.
This is the best / most consolidated writeup on the matter

basically Turbo Lover, Murphy Weller, and (possibly, unclear) Reanimator have been sexually harassing women, including underage girls, at their concerts, coercing them into sex even though all of them have significant others at home (who were also kept in the dark about this for some time)
when all this was brought to light, when they found the posts, instead of coming out and making a statement about it (even denying the claims) the Protos have instead done their best to shut down the conversation, including a case where The Gambler sent a rude ask to someone who was barely involved to bully her into stopping the conversation (Gambler then deleted her blog)
Those of us who used to be fans have pledged to stop supporting the band in any way, and we’re trying to raise awareness of the situation so women who DO choose to go to their concerts can protect themselves.

Thanks! It is going really well :D I'm getting a lot out of it for sure, everyone is really friendly and supportive and there is a lot to be learned just listening to other people's crit feedback as well. I'm hoping to get 3 solid pieces done in the process... we'll see!
