Pad Chennington on Merzbow
I really enjoy this youtube channel called 'Pad Chennington.' Does a lot of deep dives into obscure genres and experimental types of music. This video takes a look at Pulse Demon, an album by Merzbow which is probably his most famous. I do get the sense that, kinda like Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed, a lot of people are aware of this album as like a 'fun-fact,' like perhaps they may have heard Fantano talk about it but they're not really familiar with noise as a genre. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, art which is obscure or kinda challenging to experience is always going to have a 'barrier of entry,' and it's usually not a good use of energy to try and 'call out the posers' as it were. Anyway, it's an interesting album. For me it fills that very particular space of something that you almost can't take at first, but then you find yourself coming back to it again and again...
