39: Talk about things you wish you’d known earlier.
Dear Shoshana of like, two/three years ago,
I wish I had known that hanging out with friends is fun. I wish I had known that people aren’t going to laugh or make fun of you for voicing your opinion or acting silly. It’s okay to not like people, you don’t have to please everyone. Not everyone is deserving of your effort, but the people that are are pretty fucking awesome.
36: Talk about your guilty pleasures.
I absolutely love 90’s one hit wonders. And S Club 7. My pure, unadulterated love for S Club 7 is mildly disconcerting, but they are the bees’ fucking knees. Um, I love TV shows that are so hilariously bad that they’re good, and the same with romantic comedies. I like going to the movies with my mum or shopping with my mum, or just sitting at home with her on a Saturday night, watching Law and Order, or Sons of Anarchy or The Unit or whatever show it is she’s watching at the time.
32: Talk about a place you remember from your childhood.
My mother’s family lives about two hours away from where I live, more inland, and about 40 minutes from Newcastle. Every summer holidays since I can remember, we’ve gone up to their house for a few days/a week for Christmas, despite being incredibly Jewish. We’d go to their house, and their two little annoying-as-fuck dogs would be barking like crazy from either the side gate or the front door. You’d walk in, and to your immediate right was my Aunt and Uncle’s bedroom and a hallway, and to the left was a big living room, where we’d all sit and watch TV and unwrap our presents Christmas morning. Next to the living room, and connected to the hallway was the kitchen, and off the kitchen was a MASSIVE backyard and pool. LIKE HUGE. then more bedrooms and another massive living/family room. The house was old and had this really particular smell and gradually my cousins moved out until when we went to visit it was just my aunty, uncle, cousins Josh and Jenna (Kasey lived with her partner and Ellie in America), my parents, broseph and me. I’d always have to sleep with Jenna and she’d kick me in my sleep. It was annoying and hilarious but mostly annoying. On Christmas morning, we’d all wake up (usually Josh would parade through the house playing Christmas music to wake us up), and we’d only be allowed to go to the living room for presents once Kasey was over and had had a glass of Coke. We’d have lunch just my Aunty’s family and my family and then dinner time my mother’s brother and his whole family would come over and we’d play backyard cricket and talk and laugh and drink and those are just my favourite memories, with my whole extended family (which is now quite large, as all of my cousins have kids and partners and I’m the youngest cousin, but sandwiched in between my first cousins where there’s a ten-fifteen year age gap and their kids, with the same age gap.)
Anyway, my aunt and uncle sold that house and now live in a more modern home close by. The same stuff still happens, but it’s just different now because everyone’s older and I don’t know.
