Sayaw ng Bituin
Sayaw ng Bituin, or in English Dance of the Star, is painted on canvas using acrylic paint. This painting conveys the message of Filipino culture, where the painting is a woman wearing a blue Filipiñiana with yellow patterns and is dancing Pagdanggo sa Ilaw. Pagdanggo sa Ilaw is a Filipino folk dance. The woman is balancing a candle on each hand and another one on her head. This dance is graceful and is usually danced at night so that the candles of the dancer will illuminate the place. I called it Sayaw ng Bituin because the woman is a star, accompanied by the light from the candles.
It is my first time to paint in canvas and using acrylic as a medium. Unlike the other artists who paint on their canvas directly from their mind or imagination, I had to draw a draft in pencil fisrt before painting it with acrylic paint. I also had a difficult time in mixing the colors for it to be accurate to the color of skin, dress, and background. I faced these challenges by consulting my classmates, who gave me feedbacks. I aslo searched for ways on how to paint with acrylic. This artwork is unique because I guess I am the only one in class to paint that conveys a message of Filipino folk dance. I do not just call this an artwork, but a masterpiece.
I learned that creating a masterpiece really takes time, patience and creativity in order to finish it. If I were to give myself a score, I would rate it 7 out of 10. Yes it is not perfect, but I know I can do better next time.
