Digital Appropriation Art
In this artwork, I used Vincent Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles as a background and James Whistler's Whistler's Mother as the main subject. Here you can see that the woman has a laptop and scattered papers on the floor. This can be interpreted as a student studying in her bedroom. I used Whistler's Mother because every student is like a mother who takes care of her child, or in the student's case, her grades. This artwork has an hashtag of #BuhayMC.
Every student said that they had a stressful life in school. Well, MC students can relate to that. As MC students, we want to strive for higher achievements, we always challenge ourselves to the point that it seems impossible to achieve. But of course, we did not give up. Giving up is not in the vocabulary of MC students. Yes there may be times that we will suffer from reading a 22-page article or writing multiple papers in every subject. But all of these "ayoko na" end in actual finished work.
A sketch as a draft for my digital appropriation art. Can you name what artworks I used?? đđ
Sayaw ng Bituin
Sayaw ng Bituin, or in English Dance of the Star, is painted on canvas using acrylic paint. This painting conveys the message of Filipino culture, where the painting is a woman wearing a blue Filipiñiana with yellow patterns and is dancing Pagdanggo sa Ilaw. Pagdanggo sa Ilaw is a Filipino folk dance. The woman is balancing a candle on each hand and another one on her head. This dance is graceful and is usually danced at night so that the candles of the dancer will illuminate the place. I called it Sayaw ng Bituin because the woman is a star, accompanied by the light from the candles.
It is my first time to paint in canvas and using acrylic as a medium. Unlike the other artists who paint on their canvas directly from their mind or imagination, I had to draw a draft in pencil fisrt before painting it with acrylic paint. I also had a difficult time in mixing the colors for it to be accurate to the color of skin, dress, and background. I faced these challenges by consulting my classmates, who gave me feedbacks. I aslo searched for ways on how to paint with acrylic. This artwork is unique because I guess I am the only one in class to paint that conveys a message of Filipino folk dance. I do not just call this an artwork, but a masterpiece.
I learned that creating a masterpiece really takes time, patience and creativity in order to finish it. If I were to give myself a score, I would rate it 7 out of 10. Yes it is not perfect, but I know I can do better next time.
The making đš
One last task was given to me for the second blog entry, and that is to create a layout for the gallery. I considered the space to be larger than the one we visited. Measurements are not indicated in here as this is just a draft layout of the gallery. On the left, you can see the top view of the small gallery. As you enter, the first artworks that you will see are paintings. The one with the rectangular shape with circles on its sides are mini spotlights, where the painting is well-illuminated so that people will appreciate it more. Each painting is one meter apart and the information about the painting is beside the artwork itself. I intended to place the information beside the painting so that it is on eye-level view. At the end of the row of paintings, you will now see the hanging artworks. Just like the spacing in paintings, these hanging artworks are one meter apart. The information about the artwork is on a stand table where visitors can read it. Turning to your left, you can now see the statues or those artworks that cannot be hanged. The statues are encased inside a glass box, this is also to protect the artwork and for the visitors to avoid touching it. The information is on a stand table as well. A gallery should be designed in a manner that every artwork must be seen by the visitors. I created a layout where visitors will just turn and see a different artwork. The flow of foot traffic will be from the door, the entrance and exit as well, through the row of paintings, hanging artworks, statues, hanging artworks once again, and then the door to the exit.
+The Visit+
I always love to go to any artwork gallery. Seeing all those creative masterpieces is so satisfying. Whenever I see an artwork, I always wondered how the artist did his or her work, how long did the artist finished, what was his or her inspiration, and many more questions in mind. I believe that I am a curious kid who's always takes her time to appreciate an artwork.
It would be nice if the gallery has a larger space for everyone and more artworks inside. Everyone would appreciate the gallery if the different artworks are in separate rooms. For instance, in the gallery there were statues and hanging artworks, it would be nice if these artworks are together separate from the paintings so that visitors will be able to appreciate them more.

A new, small room for MC's Gallery of Women's Art. I can consider that this room has just enough for its purpose with only 42 artworks. Although there are small spotlights for every artwork inside, the place is not well illuminated and that is why the place looks dark.
Although the gallery has enough space for its artworks, it doesn't have enough space for visitors. Our class consists of 30 students and the place already looked crowded. I also noticed that the paintings are too close to each other and this may affect the ambience of the gallery. When people gathered to look for an artwork, it looks crowded and busy. Some paintings are on the floor, maybe because there is not enough space for them to be displayed.
The gallery consists of only one room. The artworks are grouped together according to their themes and types. The artworks that are not framed (statues) are not at an eye-level though. I guess that it is more appropriate to have those artworks at an eye-level, so that peolple will appreciate it more.

+Contemporary Arts+
This is not the first time that I had Arts as a subject in class. When I was in elementary school, our teacher would require us to bring art materials such as colored papers, paintbrushes, different colors of paint, glue, scissors, etc. Of course as as kid, I was very excited. After every artwork that I did, I always present it to my mom and dad and tell them how âmagalingâ I am.
In highschool, we also had arts as a subject. During this time, it was totallt different from elementary days. In elementary, you can just bring art materials then do whatever the teacher instructed. This time, we actually had a book for arts. In this book presents different art throughout the history. It was really exciting to learn about this because I can see the differences in color, texture, and style in the artworks of famous artists. Art cannot only be seen in paintings, but also in buildings/structures, clothes as in fashion, food art, and many more.
This term, we will be having Contemporary Arts. In this subject, I expect that I will discover the broader nature in arts. I also want to know notable masterpieces that were created in our generation. As one of my goals, I want to know more of the different art styles throughout the history and in this generation.
Honestly, I donât believe that I have creativity at all. I donât even know if I am imaginative as well. So during the hours of this class, I want to enhance and develop my skills and creativity. If I learned a lot in Contemporary Arts, I will be able to incorporate these skills in doing my school works that require creativity.
Since painting in canvas is entirely new to me, I think that that will be the most challenging part in this subject. I am used to making drafts and then making it as a finished product. Because in painting, all you have to do is draw or paint directly into the canvas, no drafts. Of course, I will do my best in accepting this challenge.
