This is a funny question, because the test writers go to a bunch of trouble here to obfuscate the fact that they're really just asking you to set up and solve a proportion. Check it out:

Not to scale or anything, but look at what's going on here. Since that cutout is an equilateral triangle, the bold notched edge has a length of 3 + 1 + 1 = 5 inches for every 4 inches the paper is long. 

So all you need to do to find the length of the bold notched edge of the 80-inch strip of paper is set up a proportion:

This is a funny question, because the test writers have gone to great lengths to disguise what is, in reality, just a simple proportions question. 

Note that, because those little cut-out notches are equilateral triangles, they mean that the darkened line has a total length of 3 + 1 + 1 = 5 inches for every 4 inches the paper is long.

So if you want the length of the notched edge of 80 inches of paper, you set up the following proportion:

Solve that. x = 100.
