I don’t typically post on here from myself. I usually stick to sharing helpful resources or posts for myself and others.

But can we take a moment to speak about witchtok? I started my journey in witchcraft 4 years ago alongside my cousin because of our suspicions of my great grandmother (her grandmother) being a witch. (She had strange writings and markings in old books,etc). We managed to find super helpful people on tumblr and a ton of free resources, links, etc.

However we slowed our practice for a bit which honestly I think helped us till we got a bit older and got wiser about things. The next thing I know she told me about witchtok. I was surprised to see witches out in the open, honestly. But it was good. I’ve never been a huge TikTok fan and came to hate the app with a burning passion after regretting having the app when it was musically. (Cue cringey videos)

But now I came across a post where a baby witch literally admits that other baby witches are coming to her for help. They were even in the comments asking questions. I find it super frustrating that baby witches are teaching baby witches. Especially since I’ve seen such toxic behavior on the app with tons of misinformation, people dabbling in closed practices, etc. Not to mention... hexing the moon and fae? But this baby witch was carrying on in ways like she wasn’t a new witch, from calling them (a word I won’t mention as I’m not here to point fingers at specific people), and saying witches comment sections aren’t google. But at the same time she is starting teaching videos.

For example a recent video I found that kept info from baby witches on using a veil... Instead it was never called a veil or said the purposes of why we might wear them and how you can wear them. It wasn’t harmful necessarily but it gave no information behind veiling and was only called a  bandanna. The person practically claimed it as their style. There’s also just tons of videos out there where they say things are okay that aren’t. Teaching baby witches non friendly beginner things.

I could go on and list so many things I’ve seen. I’m just surprised that not many people have spoken out against these kinds of people on the app. Most people come across it and act like being a witch is a trend. I don’t care what they say. That’s only how I’ve seen it. Witchcraft has become a big and important part of my life. It’s helped me, especially during my hard time spiritually. It’s also about my great grandmother and how I’m bettering my life. But now to others it’s suddenly some TikTok trend where people share false information and harm other communities especially closed practices. Surely I’m not the only one who feels like this. That a part of my life is being turned into something that it’s not.

I tried to explain it the best I could but I really want to know what everyone else here on tumblr thinks. Cause I know a lot of people on here have been practicing for a long time. Disclaimer though, I have seen some great witches on there. One elder witch in  particular, her videos have helped me spiritually. I just want to bring attention to the harmful things on TikTok. Surely there’s a better way to help baby witches on the app.
