                    𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞     𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬     𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫     𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦     𝐨𝐧𝐞     𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬     𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐥     𝐭𝐨     𝐭𝐡𝐞     𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫     ,     and     there’s     nothing     but     MANIA     written     across     a     face     once     void     of     any     emotion.     The     rush     that     spreads     in     her     body     warms     her     from     head     to     toe     and     the     chemistry     lab     feels     like     home.     If     she     closes     her     eyes     she     can     hear     Yzma     barking     instructions     at     her     while     the     smell     of     Kronk’s     perogies     flood     her     senses.     She     lost     herself     in     her     daydream     for     a     split     second     but     the     sound     of     the     door     swinging     open     has     her     alert     instantly.     It’s     reflexive     the     way     she     pulls     the     knife     out     of     its     safe     spot     around     her     thigh     ,     arm     arching     over     her     head     as     she     releases     the     blade     ,     sending     it     across     the     room     and     THROUGH     the     boy.     Disbelief     contorts     her     features     as     she     stares     at     his     shoulder     where     the     weapon     should     be     lodged.     Instead     it’s     fallen     on     the     floor     behind     him     and     it     has     her     brows     knitting     in     frustration.

The     shatter     of     glass     is     ear     splitting     as     she     breaks     a     glass     cylinder     against     the     bench     top     ,     brandishing     her     new     found     weapon     at     the     harmless     looking     boy.     One     thing     the     isle     had     taught     her     well     :     nothing     was     harmless.     ❝     Who     the     fuck     are     YOU     ?     ❞     Words     fall     flat     on     monotonous     tongue     as     her     eyes     glance     over     his     shoulder     at     the     open     door     behind     him.     He’s     going     to     get     her     caught.     ❝     Close     door     or     else     I’ll     —     ,     ❞     Threat     trails     off     as     the     realization     settles.     What     upper     hand     did     she     have     to     a     boy     who     she     could     do     NO     HARM     ?     ❝     What     exactly     are     you     ?     ❞

                “    no,    no    it’s    okay   !   I    like    it    loud    –    …    i    meant   i    don’t    mind    you    being    loud    at    all    !  the    music    here’s    always    at    full    volume  so    we’re    kinda    used    to    it,    ”    it’s    the   first    time    she’s    had    one    on    one    time   with    Sunset    Curve’s    lead    vocal;    from    9    am   down    to    lunchtime    and    way    past,    they’ve    been   signing    autographs    for    the    public    within    the   records’    store    –    she’s    amazed    by    how    much  they’ve    managed    to    stay,    how    much    they   obviously    wanted    to    stay.    The    way    they   smile,    too    –    you    can’t    fake    that    involvement   with    the    fans.    And    every    single    fucking   time    Luke    smiles,    she’ll    glance    away    and   pretend    he’s    smiling    just    at    her    (    she’s  easily    swayed    by    music,    from    an    early    age   of    playing    cello    down    to    her    brother’s    secret  record    collection    that    he    left    for    her    when   he    took    off    ).    

                      there’s   just    something    about    Sunset    Curve    that    makes   her    think    her    brother    would’ve    liked    them    too.

                Now   that    there    are    no    rabid    girls    hoarding    Luke’s   attention    as    he    sits    behind    the    table,    Corey  takes    her    chance    to    approach    him    with    the   coy    playfulness    Gina    has    taught    her    (    the   one    she    still    fails    at    miserably,    because   subtlety    is    not    her    forte   ).    but    Luke    seems    not    to    care,    as    he   talks    about    the    first    time    he’d    been    on   stage    (    she’s    asked;    it’s    with    genuine   curiosity,    the    way    his    eyes    light    up    even   more    when    he    speaks    of    it    makes    her    cheeks   flush    ),    “    i    think    it’s    really    cool   that    you    love    being    on    stage    so    much.    I   could    never    do    that   !   ”    she    used   to    throw    up    whenever    she    had    a    cello   recital,    just    minutes    before    she    was    forced    up   the    stage,    “    i    mean,    you’re,    uh,    you’re   just    really    cool    –    everything    you    guys    do   is    cool,   obviously,    not    just    that.    ”

       there are moments — brief, very brief moments! but moments, nonetheless — when may occasionally wishes that when they’d died, they’d simply stayed dead. as incredibly wonderful as the hollywood ghost club could be, she can’t help but wonder if perhaps the opportunity to continue performing from beyond the grave was worth the ... interesting company.

       ( not that she didn’t enjoy caleb’s, or, bless his heart, willie’s, or any of the others’ company! but they sure are an eclectic bunch, aren’t they? )

       ❛ mhm, ❜ she hums, pausing filing her nails as she glances up to the boss man and points the nail file in his direction, ❛ i never said they weren’t. but, ❜ and here she raises an eyebrow, glancing down at where caleb’s cape has stuck between a pile of chairs she’d watched dante pile up earlier and one of the tables closest to the wall, the thick fabric wedged tight between the two. she makes no move to stand up and help him, knowing he’ll poof his way out of it in seconds, and instead shrugs, offering him that sweet smile of hers. ❛ they can be rather impractical, is all. ❜

“nope. no, no, no, no cooking tonight, baby.” his arms wrap around her middle fast, and by the time he’s done speaking, she’s already turned away from the kitchen counter. luke holds bell snug against him and kisses at her ear, her cheek, her neck over and over in a stupid attempt to make her forget what she was trying to do. “it’s valentine’s day, which means i get to cook for you.” another squeeze, another kiss to her nose. “what’s the number for the pizza place on the corner?”

        the feeling of his arms wrapping around her, sunlight-warm and accompanied by the sweet song of his voice in her hear, elicits a half-hearted whine of his name from her lips, her head playfully tilting to the side as he twirls her away from the counter. before she can even get out a teasing protest, her intent to play along with mock-persistence so he’ll get that goofy and totally cute satisfied smile when she finally agrees, his mouth is pressing against her skin, and suddenly, bell can’t really find it in her to even playfully deny him. as his lips flutter against her skin, she shuts her eyes, mind happily blank except for one sweet, all-consuming thought. 

        she loves him. oh, she loves him. 

         ❛ mmm, how sweet. ❜ her voice is punctuated with a lazy, lovesick giggle, eyes fluttering open to gaze up at him and that bright, proud smile. god, she’s so gone on him. she leans in to press her own kiss to his nose, her lips spreading into a sweet, smitten smile at the sight of his ensuing nose crinkle. she can’t help but kiss the spot a second time before finally pulling away, eyebrows raising playfully as she reaches up to cup his cheek, tapping at his cheekbone with her index finger. ❛ but i think you and i have different definitions of cooking, baby. ❜ she sure isn’t going to complain, though. 

         especially considering ( and she says this with all the love in the world, truly ) the concoctions luke happily puts into his mouth some days can be ... well, interesting, to say the least.

         ❛ i think iris wrote it down on one of the post-its on the fridge, ❜ she says, voice soft as she glances just past his face, and sure enough, the bright assortment of sticky notes decorating their fridge stares back at her. if she focuses on it, she can just make out a little doodle of a pizza on one of them, indistinguishable writing she’s sure is the phone number underneath it. her lips brush against his ear as she turns her attention back to luke, and she slides her hand from his cheek into his hair, graceful fingers tangling in the soft strands. as she peppers kisses across the birthmarks on his face, from his nose to under his eye to his chin, a sly look slips across her face. ❛ i think the pizza can wait, though. just for a few more minutes, don’t you think? ❜

         she still sometimes can’t believe he’s here with her — but at the same time, especially in moments like this, with their bodies notched together as though they’d always been meant to be intertwined, it feels like he’s been in her life forever. the cognitive dissonance swirls in her head until she kisses him to silence it, her lips quirking up in a sweet smile as she presses them against his. no matter how long he’s been here, he’s home either way.
