Colored Homestuck Stained glass - Unite Synchronize (the kiss)

Here’s a stained glass illustration that I spend days painting on Photoshop. It was a hard but fun experience. I’m not very versed in this peculiar technique haha. Oh yeah, all the characters are black in this drawing, it’s just the fire effect on the right. Please note that I didn’t do the lineart. It is the art of Bootsie (signed Kilar) on Tumblr! They made several ones from 2015 to 2017 and she offered people to color them only if credit was given back (naturally u_u). You can check their general blog here, and their Homestuck one here. Hi Meri! Noticed your age in your bio and honestly it’s so refreshing to see another older fangirl! I’m only in my late 20s but sometimes I feel like people look down upon us for liking “kiddy” things. I won’t tell my friends about my love for various games and TV shows for fear that I’ll be perceived as childish. Do you feel this way ever, and if so, how do you get over it? PS: you’re one of the best fic writers out there!! Can’t wait for further updates xx

HECK YEAH MORE OLD FOLKS

I feel you on this, I really do. Adults liking “kid stuff” may be far more acceptable now than in the past, but there are still a good number of people who get judgmental about it, both online and in real life. (Meanwhile, a sixty-year-old man can paint his face, wave around a giant foam finger, and scream at the referee until spittle runs down his chin, and no one calls him a giant baby. Why is that??)

It’s really up to each of us to decide how comfortable we are sharing our interests. On the one hand, the more people who are open about a certain thing, the more “normal” it becomes, and therefore, more acceptable. But on the other hand, sometimes you just don’t want to deal with people’s bullshit, and that’s okay, too. It’s all right to keep some things just for yourself, or to certain trusted friends or online communities. Within online communities, it’s fine to not disclose your age if you don’t want it to be a topic of discussion.

As for me, I definitely used to worry about it when I was younger, but now I am officially Too Old To Care. I love being an older fan! I choose to disclose my age on my blog just to get it out there; so people can learn a little something about me, and so I can stand up and be counted. There are literally dozens of us There are lots of older fans in the mix, far more than most people think. Just regular folks who didn’t have a magic personality transplant once we hit 25, and actually still like the kinds of things we’ve always liked, even though we’re super freaking old. What an idea, right??

Anyway, I’m so sorry it took me so long to answer this! And I’m even more sorry you’ve been made to feel like you should be ashamed for being awesome and having great taste. I’m not sure how helpful I’ve been, here, but I hope you find (or have found) a way to come to terms with this in a way that works for you.
