H E R E   I S   M Y   F I N A L   B O X   T R A N S F O R M A T I O N

E V O L U T I O N  O F  T H E  P A I N T   B R U S H

S T A T E M E N T

At the beginning of my final transformation, I had started with one idea and ended with a completely different idea. This change came from fiddling with the box and really taking the time to see what I could do with my materials and consider elements of the box such as the weight and thickness. I begun with cutting various sizes of cardboard and cutting slots into each piece so I could build a structure. The cardboard because to flimsy and refused to stay in place. I found it really hard to work with the cardboard and it began to frustrate me. Whilst thinking for a new idea I began, without thinking, to start cutting thin strips of cardboard and I enjoyed the repetitions of cutting thin strips. The repeated action triggered the idea to create a paintbrush. A paintbrush? It strays so far from the original box but it made me realize that anything can be transformed into anything you want it to be. There is definitely a benefit to discovery because you create things that you didn’t know you were able of creating. Whilst I was cutting I was able to build an idea. I think this is where good ideas come from, starting without knowing what you are doing, putting an object through a process of evolution. This has definitely helped to open up and stretch the possibilities of creativity.
