How Strange Innocence || Everlark
She didn’t want to. It took the threat of no dinner to even get Katniss to visit Peeta’s house to learn the dances. He is the only one living there, so she will not have to feel endangered by his witchy mother, but she dreads seeing him, dreads dancing. They’d spent so much time together recently, she didn’t want him to see her so feisty, though he knew that she was. The dress Effie had practically forced her into flowed elegantly against her legs and showed off her figure, but Katniss found herself tugging it up more than once a minute, her breasts feeling practically exposed. Great.
“Now, Peeta, place your hand on Katniss’s back. Like this.” Once Effie places his palm on the small of her back, Katniss gasps just slightly. His hand is warm. He must be nervous too. She took his free hand then began moving as Effie showed them, glad Peeta had moved the furniture out of the way so they’d have the space to do this. All Katniss wanted to do was free herself of this far too fancy dress and cuddle with Peeta, skin to skin. But she couldn’t have that.
“Sorry, sorry,” she whispered when she accidentally stepped on Peeta’s foot. Shit. She stepped the wrong way. How the hell was she supposed to remember all this? In a fit of frustration, she kicked off her high heels then backed away, tucking her brunette twists behind her ears. “Why the hell are we even doing this? We don’t have anyone to impress,” she snapped, feeling guilty at the expression on Effie’s face immediately after.
