You know what? I can’t actually say I’ve ever really thought about [Kankuro x Sakura] except that scene in Shippuden when Sakura is healing Kankuro and as a shameless shipper I thought “man he better thank her ass something fierce” 😂

But now that we’re here; how would that work?

Well she saved his life, that’s always a good conversation starter! 😂

They’re both good with their hands for different reasons, hers for healing and his from building, and with those two crafts comes a lot of in-depth knowledge that other people might find boring to hear about all the time, but, yea sure Kankuro’s not gonna care what the latest medical treatment for whatever is, but he understands the excitement behind things that other people find boring, he would understand that, so he would get excited about Sakura getting excited about it; does that make sense?

On that same note I also feel like they would be happy to be each other’s sound boards, you know, that person you trust just to throw your ideas at so you can hear them out loud and get feedback on, no matter how stupid or ill thought out they might be, even if the feedback is just “sounds good!” or “did you think about (x)?”

They both have had wildly different upbringings and family dynamics which would give interesting conversations and sharing of memories and beliefs that come from that.

As a medic Sakura is a healer and healing just doesn’t happen in a hospital setting; I feel like she would look after Kankuro when he would get too wrapped up in his workshop. Making sure he eats and drinks enough, healing any injuries to his hands he gave himself in his building; I think someone wanting to look after him he would appreciate. Oh, he would tease her dramatically for it, try to play off her concern but he would deeply appreciate it.

I feel like, because Kankuro likes building things, he would make a lot of gifts for this significant other, Sakura in this case, small thoughtful wood carvings, modest metal work jewellery, maybe even custom ninja tools to protect them in battle.

Also, Kankuro would have just a little bit of an attitude, he’s not a pushover in any way, which I think would work well for her, keep her interested and on her toes yano?

…Dammit I’ve already got a story idea 😂

So yes Anon, the question isn’t so much would I ship them, the question is can I get my story done in time for Sakura Week!

What do you think about shikaku/shibi?

[Shikaku x Shibi]? I can’t say I’ve ever actually thought about it! But you know what? They’re both consenting adults; with the right story, why not?

So now that we’re here, let’s think about how that might work.

I really like [Shikamaru x Shino], actually written a few stories for that pairing, and I feel like their dad’s would have a lot of the same dynamics.

Let’s face it Shikaku and Shibi both give off smart, resourceful, silent, powerful vibes. They’re both clan members, clan heirs and eventually clan heads so they would have that to connect and sympathise over. They’re both dads, so there’s that too depending on where in the timeline you would ship them. Both Jonin so they’re both very skilled at what they do. They both love animals; insects and deer being major parts of their lives.

I also feel like a lot of their bonding would be non-verbal. Glances, sitting in each other’s company, silently doing other things for the other (refilling their glass without the other asking, bringing them food while they’re working late), a general aura of ‘I’m here for you’. I don’t feel like either of them would be singing sonnets to the other like Lee would to his partner (the adorable little thing he is! 😍)

As soon as I read this, I asked myself “can I think of a story I would do with that ship?” And immediately I had this idea of a modern AU were InoShikaCho is a company acquisitioned by a big corporation, like a holding company, and they send Shibi, an auditor who works for the corporation, to basically audit the place to decide if they should invest in it or break it down for parts and sell it off. But, as usual, Shikaku would have a plan.

And before you ask, I have already jotted down my notes for this because I actually really liked the idea 😂
