“Our run-in with civilians earlier. You do realize you’re allowed to tell the children not to touch your wings? Miruko almost sent the last guy who tried to rub her ears flying. We may be public servants, but that doesn’t make them entitled to treat us however they want.”

“Uh, yeah, nice speech but I really don’t mind. It’s no biggie to let the kids feel my feathers.”

Edgeshot raises an eyebrow in disbelief. Hawks doesn’t know how to explain that people touching his wings is the only physical contact he gets on a regular basis.

can’t remember if you’ve said but how long are you planning to make nearly headless?? and... if u feel like it... could we maybe get a snippet? :3c

So far, it’s outlined to be five chapters and maybe an epilogue! :D And chapter lengths are similar to Damocles, so 7-9k words on average. Chapter one is complete and sitting at 8.5k words!

BUT, here’s another. <3 I keep posting the mostly-angsty snippets but I swear this chapter has a decent balance of levity and Hawks employing humor defense mechanisms to dismiss references to trauma...

“So,” Yamada asks, “What is your name, then?”

Hawks squirms uncomfortably, and lifts his blanket over his mouth.

“Seriously?” Yamada exclaims.

Hawks’s eyes dart back to the window.

“No, c’mon, man, don’t - I ain’t gonna call you that if you don’t like it, or tell anyone. I just…” Yamada frowns. “I just thought it’d be nice to have someone call you by your name sometimes.”

Hawks is beginning to understand how a guy as stern as Aizawa ended up falling for Yamada. Not that Hawks is into the guy, or anything, but those puppy eyes? Lethal weapons.

Actually, though - looking at how your style and techniques progressed from then until now was super cool! I very genuinely adore that pic, but at the same time it really drives home how much you have honed your skills since then, as well!
