finding it hard to stand

i sit

the silent tears falling upon my hand

not wanting to let you down

i smile

uttering a two word lie; like a mantra

day in day out.

knowing my words mean nothing

i remain silent

my absence never noticed

your words removed my mask

freeing the tears

and the smiles.

but at night

it comes back

the memories

the fears

the tears.
