…today in Italy – June 2 – we celebrate Republic Day, which commemorates the institutional referendum of 1946. On that date, Italians (for the first time, including women) were called to the polls to choose between Monarchy and Republic, marking the birth of the new democratic order after the end of the Second World War and twenty years of fascist dictatorship. Commemorative events were held in all Italian municipalities. In Padua, the procession began from Palazzo Moroni, the seat of the municipality, and then continued to Piazza dei Signori, where local authorities gave speeches. So I left the crew filming the crowd and the empty pre-election promises and finished up at the office...
