The way the Paley Guy mimes the act of hugging in that GIF where Gillian asks "Did you hug me in the pilot? To comfort me?" is the representation I didn't know I needed.
Ha, I never noticed that before but you are so right. Heh heh. One of us.

I need The Paley Guy to be the moderator for NYCC and for all the other panels that will happen!
Keith Uhlich, we need you!
Fan Expo Vancouver
It's in November. In Vancouver. On a weekend. It only makes sense to have an X-files panel since they are all there! Send tweets to @fanexpovan every. damn. day. to let them know we want this! C'mon fandom, WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Also tag Paley Guy. He totally wants to do it! Thanks to @therobbinsnest for starting this, now let's get it done!!! (I've already sent 2 today.)
In case I haven't said it in awhile, I love Paley Guy. ❤️
Hi Cate! I think we should shoutout to Paley Guy to do another amazing interview of Gillian and David before S11! Show them clips, ask them interesting questions nobody asked already a million times before! I know Paley 2013 was a rare unicorn but if someone can do it is PaleyGuy!!!
I've been noodling this today and I think it's a really interesting question. My initial gut reaction was YES PLEASE. As everyone here knows, I love Paley Guy dearly. He's kind of adorable, elicited brilliant and hilarious reactions from David and Gillian, and knows his X-Files shit. (And his tweet about my crush/non-crush was both my all-time fandom high and low.)
But the more I think about it, the more I don't think I would want it to happen. Paley was just so magical and it took place at a time when David and Gillian were still trying to acknowledge past wrongs and start to appreciate one another as friends. It was spontaneous and sweet and far less self-conscious than anything we'll ever see again. I think a follow up with anything resembling the original format (questions and clips) would be highly disappointing.
But seeing Paley Guy host something different could work. Like, just the two of them playing games and prompting them to share behind-the-scenes stories would be awesome. I'm still a huge fan of getting them to read out interview quotes and getting them to guess if they are real or which one of them said them. I would also love if he showed them a slideshow of their photoshoots to get their reactions.
(I'm interested in how others would answer this question too...)
cuz sometimes
you need to have Paley guy playing the background while you do some mindless editing on the computer.
It is interesting, however, that Carter rewrites history in one of the “En Ami” flashbacks: Via ADR, he has CSM tell an indignant Scully (who’s convinced that she’s been drugged) that he and a housekeeper carried her into his home, changed her clothes, and put her in bed. In the episode as it originally aired, CSM only says, “I carried you.” There is no housekeeper. Is this Carter’s attempt, in the #MeToo moment, to soften the blow of what is, if not literal rape, then clearly assault? Or, additionally, to rather callously allude to the complaint, aired earlier this year just as the 11th season was entering production, that the show’s primary staff was all male? (Several female writers and directors were subsequently added.) The choice certainly leaves an astringent aftertaste. At the same time, the retconning does work to buoy one of the season’s overarching themes, which is, without giving any future plot points away, the way things are vs. the way we remember or wish them to be. (I’ve seen five of the ten episodes, and they each play around with this idea.)
