after yawning, kofuku noticed a man making hand gestures toward them. this was...sign language, wasn’t it? they didn’t know a lick of that. they stared at him in confusion, but tried to decipher what he could be saying. “h-hello. i-um...i don’t understand, i’m sorry. i’ve never learned any sign language, sir.” they felt guilty that they couldn’t understand him. it wasn’t something they could help though. “could you...write? ah, but i don’t have any paper...or a pen...”

“it’s...” his voice trailed off, and he averted his eyes from red. he was trying to keep his expression and tone as neutral as possible. though deep down, he knew red could see right through him. to green, nanami was both his older sister and a sort of motherly figure after their parents passed. she was still only a teenager at the time, but she stepped up to help take care of him. as much as he loves her, it did create some distance between them. she seemed to be on a different level now. he didn’t realize it at the time though. it wasn’t until later that it really set in. in retrospect, he was probably a big burden. he was always getting into trouble and causing problems for her. she always had to focus on him instead of herself, even at such a young age. he felt awful about it.

“i really love nanami. she’s the only family i got left.” she meant so, so much to green. she always has. he wants to make it up to her for taking care of him, and for dealing with him even when he had been such a brat. he wants them to be like siblings again. he wishes he could express this, but he’s kept it to himself for so long. he still talks to her, but not too often--just every now and again to check in with her. he wants to bridge the gap between them, but doesn’t know how. he was having a hard time talking about this. he laughed awkwardly, trying to lighten the mood, “sorry, i guess i’m not really giving much of an answer, huh?”
