I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo since 2014 (this being my 5th time). I’ve won two years in a row and I’m not very hopeful for winning again this year (because I’ve got a very busy semester and a part time job), but I want to try anyway!
My ideas often come from prompts, so I shall now share with you those prompts (clicking on the prompt will take you to the orignal post)
First up is this promtp from @lgbtqwritingprompts :
“A bi woman with a feminine name sees the same handsome guy at school from afar but is too shy to ask him out. Eventually she leaves a note with her number. He doesn’t respond but later, she finds out ‘he’ is a butch lesbian and turns out she ignored her because she thought the note was from a straight girl interested in a guy. They then start dating.”
So that was my setting and a little bit about the characters! But I wanted more, so then I found these two prompts and they came from @sstrangeprompts and @gingerly-writing, respectively.
“The sea has terrified you for as long as you can remember. You believe your fear developed because of dreams you had as a kid.
One night, you’re invited to a party by the beach… After pondering whether you should go or not, you decide to accept the invitation.
For the most part, everything seems alright… But once the party is over, you hear a voice calling out for you. It seems to be coming from the sea.”
““You thought my poems about having lighting under my skin were pretentious nonsense?” She laughed as sparks skittered across her outstretched palm, laughed as her critics’ eyes went wide. “Tacky teenage imagery, right?””
So I decided to apply one girl from the first prompt to the second prompt and the other girl from the first prompt to the third prompt! The bi feminine girl is the character who was scared of the sea and then a voice calls out to her from the ocean. The butch lesbian is the girl with the electricity power.
More to come about these characters later!
