my own children hate me

I betrayed everyone who loved me

my best friend cut my limbs off

my closest ally chains me

I live alone

I only talk to people who despise me

I burn in a fire of my own lighting

My backs' been clear of clawmarks since spring

My neck has been free of bite marks since summer

My skin remains clear and in tact this Fall

And while fangs and claws kept me safe and warm in past winters

This year a cool breeze passes through my sheets

It whispers seeds of doubt

Planting itself in fields still yet to bear fruit and riddled with weeds

It taunts me

Reminding me of times this bed felt like a furnace where love burned hotter than I imagined hell to be

I'm not gonna write you a love song

If I wrote you a love song It would be the most beautiful thing I could produce.

Id pour my heart out to you

Listing out all the ways for why I became enamored with you

The way your voice would soothe me

How I could always feel your warmth around me

and how good I perceived is to be when we were together.

I'm not gonna write you a love song,

because if I did I would have to tell you about how every part of me would ache for every part of you and just the mention of your name would be the sound of a sweet melody in my ear.

Us vibing in the kitchen,

Or kissing under the moon light.

I'm not going to write you a love song becuase if I did would you know it was about you?

Would you even care?

Would you even listen?

Or would you play pretend?

I'm not gonna write you a love song because if I did, it would be the most beautiful thing I could produce but also the most depressing.

And every time I opened my mouth to utter a word of it, it would make me well up with tears and my throat would feel as if thousands of needles were holding it together.

So while I could write you a love song and oh how many times I’ve desired to

When I answer Nothing

When you ask me how I feel and I say nothing

I mean, I feel everything and nothing at the same time

When I say I feel nothing

I mean I have this feeling of endless nothingness inside

When I say nothing

It feels like a different type of nothing

As if the word nothing has changed meanings

Nothing felt like the embodiment of everything, everywhere, all of the time

When I say nothing

I mean empty like I'm drained

Devoid of everything

Every tear, every laugh, every bit of kindness that I have

Now,

When I say I feel nothing

I feel renewed like the sunrise after a rainy evening

I feel like calm, like peace, like the smell of fresh coffee hanging on the breeze

Like water droplets sitting on fresh basil in your garden

Now,

When I say I feel like nothing, what I really mean is my jar is full and ready to be poured into, but that I have nothing left to give you.

it is the ones who desire generosity who are the greediest

in a world of hate

it is the ones who love that carry the most wrath

in a world gone mad

it is the ones with their minds in tact that are the most insane

If something you did actually mattered, could you cope with it? That your choices left something palpable in the world that made it never the same again? An alien frontier where the rules for life are arcane and distant, where nobody has an answer? Years we retreat to the comfort of ritual far from the glass between us and tomorrow, feeding our time to mundane repetition as moments start bleeding from one to the next 'til marching in spiral we sag and we sicken to fall upon sands that scatter us through. "Alive! Alive!" I call to the specters and wonder in silence if they call me too.
